Happy Valley wins Fantasy Bowl XXIV; Oregon wins points championship

There will be some new names on FFL-GOO’s Fantasy Bowl Championship trophy this year — the Happy Valley Violence has defeated Philadelphia 66-32 in the title game.

The HVV franchise was originally the Pittsburgh Pachyderms and then later the Mission Viejo Impossibles, but none of those previous owners managed to get the franchise into the Fantasy Bowl. Happy Valley has won it’s first title game after losses in 2008, 2011 and 2014.

Dallas captured 3rd place, beating Mercer 76-49.

The Big Oregon Bang  wins the FFL points championship in a year with SIX teams finishing both a) over 1000 points and b) all within 100 points of the winner. The Fantasy Bowl Champion Happy Valley Violence finish second in points, 24 points behind BOB. New Chester’s late points surge had them finishing 3rd, just 6 points in front of 4th-place Dallas, who failed to defend either of the trophies the Armadillos swept in 2014.

  • It’s Oregon’s second time to capture the points championship (2012 with 1171 points).
  • It’s the second year in a row Happy Valley has finished second (1131 points last season). HVV is still looking for their first points championship.

Breaking News, Trades, Rosters…

2014 Recap

The 2014 Dallas Armadillos became the 6th team in league history to pull off the Grand Slam — winning both the Fantasy Bowl and the Points Championship in the same year.

Dallas beat Happy Valley 86-66 to win Fantasy Bowl XXIII. Dallas’ 1,326 total points was the 2nd-highest total in league history, falling 9 points short of the 1,335 Syracuse posted in 2013.

For the second year in a row, Oregon took the consolation playoff game (3rd place), beating Philadelphia 47-41.

New Chester (1,091) and Syracuse (973) took the awards for the two highest-scoring squads of non-playoff teams.

Boston finished last in points, which had never happened in the history of the franchise. Boston’s 775 points, however, was the highest ever scored by a last place team.

Some other tidbits Nick passed along for the year:

  • Ying broke a record for most transaction fees … and he came in last place … go figure
  • After spending only the second most in transactions each of the last two years, Ying once again regained his pulpit, and spent the most in the league on transactions for the 17th time in our 23 year history
  • We broke a record for most league transaction money, which yielded the highest payout in history to the Sam/Paul combo team; $940 for the points and FFL Bowl Champs
  • Rich/Mike received a payout for the first time since 2007
  • Rich/Mike made the biggest leap from 11th overall in points to third.  Also had the biggest increase in wins from 3 to 7. A .500 record for third in points is not very lucky
  • Jim had the biggest decline from 3rd overall in points to 8th
  • Ying and Zilb had the biggest decline in wins. both went from 7 last year to 4 this season
  • Nibs has not received a payout since 2004
  • Nick received a payout for the 22nd year

Blizzard completes grand slam, wins points championship

The Syracuse Blizzard completed the FFL Grand Slam for the 2014 season — winning the Points Championship to go along with their Fantasy Bowl win. It’s the 5th time in our 21-year league history the same team has won the FFL Grand Slam, following the Griffins (2006), Thorobreds (2005), Wildcats (1997), and Cheeseheads (1994).

Syracuse’s total of 1,335 points eclipses the previous high score for a single season, a record previously held by the Orange County Beach Dudes who scored 1,298 points in 2007.

Mercer (1155 points) and Philadelphia (1124 points) take the final two money prizes, finishing 1-2 in high points for non-playoff teams.
