Four of our six playoff spots have been clinched as we enter the final week of the regular season. Two playoff slots remain, and an unprecendented FIVE teams are still in the running for those two slots.
Miami (10-2) is in – the Muffdivers clinched the Cappelletti Division last week and despite a loss this week, they hold the #1 seed.
Chicago (9-3) is in – the Mud clinched the Engle Division this week and will hold the #2 seed.
Dallas (7-5) is in – the Armadillos clinched the Paterno Division this week despite a loss.
Orange County (8-5) is in – the Dudes have clinched a wild card berth.
Frelinghuysen and Boxboro control their own fate. For the Blowfish (6-5-1) it’s clear-cut — win and they’re in, lose and they’re out. The Froglickers (7-5) are in with a win. A loss would drop to them to 7-6 and into tiebreaker scenarios.
Connecticut, Oregon, and Mercer are all 6-6 and have a chance to make the playoffs, but they need to win plus they need other things to happen.
So for the final two playoff spots we have the following scenarios:
Scenario One: FFL and BOX both win this week – both are in.
Scenario Two: FFL wins and BOX loses:
(FFL is in and one playoff spot remains):
A) The Wildcats are in with a win.
B) The Big Bang are in with a win and a MER loss.
C) The Mustangs are in with a win and a CTW loss.
Scenario Three: FFL loses and BOX wins:
(BOX is in and one playoff spot remains)
–OR–
Scenario Four: FFL loses and BOX loses:
(BOX is eliminated and two playoff spots remain)
Under scenarios three and four, tiebreakers will apply.
If two teams are 7-6 the tiebreaker is head-to-head (rule 4.3.1):
A) FFL beat both CTW and BOB, but lost to MER.
B) MER beat both FFL and BOB, but lost to CTW.
C) CTW beat MER, lost to FFL, plays BOB this week.
D) BOB lost to both MER and FFL, plays CTW this week.
If three teams are 7-6 and are not all in the same division (rules 4.3.2 and 4.4) tiebreakers are applied first to teams within the same division, and then applied across other divisions. In this scenario these tiebreakers would be:
A) If FFL, MER, and CTW are all 7-6, CTW would win the first tiebreaker; MER would win the second tiebreaker.
B) If FFL, MER, and BOB are all 7-6, MER would win the first tiebreaker, and FFL would win the second tiebreaker.
