Muffdivers to face Griffins for the Championship

The top two seeds were easily toppled in the semifinals, as the Big Bang fell 122-70.5 to Miami, and the Froglickers lost 92-85 to Philadelphia. That leaves us with a rematch of the 2007 Fantasy Bowl, as Miami with face Philadelphia for the championship.

Miami’s score of 122 points fell one short of tying the record highest score for a playoff game, which is 123 points by the Blowfish in the 2020 semifinals.

Miami is looking for the franchise’s first-ever Fantasy Bowl win. The Muffdivers have only appeared in two previous Fantasy Bowls: losing 78-37 to Philadelphia in the aforementioned 2007 title game, and a 84-70.5 loss to the Armadillos in 2022.

Meanwhile, the Griffins are making their record 12th appearance in the Fantasy Bowl, with 4 wins and 7 losses in their previous 11 contests. With a win, the Griffins would tie both the Mud and the Blowfish franchises, who have 5 championship wins each.

All playoff teams will be in action this week to determine the championship and top six places.

In the points race, four teams are still in contention for the top two spots. The Griffins (1278) hold an 11-point edge over the Muffdivers (1267), but the Armadillos (1247.5) and Big Bang (1238) are both still within easy striking distance with two weeks remaining. All other teams are more than 100 points off the lead.

Week 17 Schedule

Griffins, Wildcats, and Dudes round out Playoff Lineup

For the first time ALL season, the six winning teams were also the six highest-scoring teams. Count the Griffins (15.25 FFL-GOO points) and Wildcats (15) among them — both teams held their own playoff fate, and they won with high scores. And while the Beach Dudes (14) lost their game and failed to score in the top half, the Chicago Mud (12.5) and the Mercer Mustangs (12.25) both failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

The Big Bang (19) is our top seed and will enjoy a bye for the quarterfinals along with the Froglickers (17.5) who grabbed a 1/2 point this week and hold the second seed.

Miami (16.5) gained no points this week and holds steady at the #3 seed and will face Orange County in the quarterfinals. The Griffins and Wildcats will face off in the second quarterfinal game.

Bang Clinches; Five Contenders for Last 3 Spots

Add the Big Bang to the list of playoff-bound teams as Oregon (17 FFL-GOO points) vaulted into a tie with the Froglickers (17) atop the league standings. And while the Muffdivers beat the Froglickers in their head-to-head matchup, Miami (16.5) failed to score in the top half and falls to third in current standings.

The two highest-scoring teams of this week, oddly, are the two teams that join those eliminated from the playoff hunt. Keystone (12) posted 97.5 points while Dallas (11) scored 95 on their bye week. Both will both join Boxboro (7), Happy Valley (8), and New Chester (9) on the sidelines for the post-season.

That leaves five teams vying for the remaining three playoff spots as we enter the final week of the regular season.

Beach Dudes (14) vs. Griffins (13.25) is a key matchup this week. Orange County would clinch a playoff spot with a win. Philadelphia would clinch a playoff spot with a win AND with either a Mercer loss or Mercer low-score. If this is a high-scoring game, it’s possible both teams clinch playoff spots.

The remaining contenders and their week 14 opponents:

Wildcats (13) vs. Violence — Connecticut would clinch a playoff spot with a win and a full point for high-scores. But the Wildcats enter this game having lost 3 of their last 4 while averaging only 56 points per week over than span.

Mud (12.5) vs. Blowfish — Chicago does not control their own fate and would need some help. The Mud have lost 4 of their last 5 games, with all those losses coming against playoff teams or other contenders.

Mustangs (12.25) vs. Big Bang — Mercer keeps doing just enough to remain a distant longshot, but is this the week their luck runs out? Oregon is the hottest team of the second half and is on a 5-game winning streak.

Three Out; Two In; One Heavyweight Matchup

With two weeks remaining in the regular season the playoff picture is taking shape. Three teams have been eliminated, two teams have clinched playoff spots, and those two teams — Frelinghuysen and Miami — play each other this week in one game that could determine the #1 overall seed.

As for the standings, the Froglickers (17 pts) and Muffdivers (15.5) have clinched playoff spots. The Thorobreds (8), Blowfish and Violence (both 7) have been eliminated. Dallas and Keystone are wobbling. The Longfellows lost a winnable game this week, and the Armadillos underperformed in a game decided by 5 points. DAL and KEY both have byes remaining, so with 10 points each and only 3 potential points remaining, the playoff outlook considerably bleakened for both this week.

The Big Bang (15) is riding a 4-game winning streak and has averaged over 90 points per game over the past 5 weeks. The Beach Dudes (13) are surging and just acquired the NFL’s touchdown leader at the trade deadline. These teams are both looking good for playoff spots.

With two playoff spots remaining, Chicago and Connecticut (both 12.5) control their own fate. They lead the remaining two playoff contenders — Philadelphia and Mercer (both 11.25) — by 1.25 points.

Remaining opponents:

Trade Deadline This Week

With 3 weeks remaining in the regular season, the trade deadline is upon us. The Froglickers, Muffdivers, and Big Bang all seem well-positioned to make the playoffs. The Mud has Jonathan Taylor.

After that, two additional teams will make the playoffs and currently the Mustangs (11.25), Beach Dudes (11), Wildcats (11), Griffins (10.25), Armadillos (10), and Longfellows (10) are all within one and a quarter points of each other in the standings.

Throw in all the injuries and scoring volatility we’ve seen this year, and it still feels like a pretty wide open race; and after the playoffs start, anything can happen.

On to the business at hand – this weekend is the trade deadline. Players are locked in at kickoff of their respective games and can be traded up until their Week 12 games kick off (which start tonight!). Players on bye this week can be traded up until kickoff of the Monday night game.

Week 12 also marks a couple other things:

1) Protection cutoff – a player must be on a fantasy team roster continuously starting this week to be eligible for protection for 2026 rosters. In other words, players added after this week will not be eligible to protect for 2026.

2) Transactions revert back to first-come, first-serve. The usual caveats apply to first-come adds: all players involved in the transaction must have completed their games for the week; and CBS keeps players locked every week until Tuesday morning, so transactions remain in-queue with time/date stamps until CBS closes out the previous week, at which point I can process our transactions.

Half Season Update

by Ron Yeany, non-AI Fantasy Sports Reporter

With seven weeks in the books we’re at the halfway point for the 2025 season. Let’s mark the occasion with a good old-fashioned human-written team-by-team update to summarize where things stand at the halfway mark.

I’m hearing generally positive feedback about the new scoring system. I know one owner was happy to gain a point during a bye week in which his team scored 99.5 points. It’s fun to genuinely root for your opponent to do well and get a point — just as long as you do better and get 2 points.

As for standings, the spreadsheet has the week-by-week tally of FFL points earned. fflgoo.com/standings/ is updated Tuesday mornings. The standings on CBS are slightly helpful — think of your wins and ties on CBS as the full points and partial points you’ve earned in the new standings. Got it? Good.

Now that we’re all clear on that 😉 on to the updates. (Point standings for each team in parentheses.)

FFL (10 pts.) The defending champion Froglickers currently lead the standings. Lamar Jackson has been hurt for several weeks and Derrick Henry has come back down to earth this season, but Jaxon Smith-Njigba has stepped up to join Ja’Marr Chase as an elite WR pair powering this team alongside rookie sensation Cam Skattebo. Outlook: Will Lamar and Derrick return to form? The schedule gets more difficult — the Froglickers’ 4 wins are against teams with 22.5 FFL points; the Lickers’ next 4 opponents have a combined 29.75 FFL points.

MIA (9.5) Miami is a half-point off the pace in the standings. Patrick Mahomes, Christian McCaffrey and James Cook are propelling this team. The Muffdivers used 4 of their first 5 draft picks on receivers this year but when those those players drafted are in the starting lineup they’re averaging only 4.1 points per start. Outlook: Strong core gives Miami a high floor, but there’s not a lot of bench depth and they’re still looking for a breakout starter at receiver.

CTW (8.5) Your author’s team – the Wildcats – are in third place. A strong start was soon beset by injuries, losing James Conner and Malik Nabers in weeks 3 and 4 respectively. Jalen Hurts is balling, Kyren Williams is a reliable if not terribly explosive back, and Emeka Egbuka is making a case for best rookie WR so far. Outlook: Rashee Rice is back from his suspension, which will provide a boost. But the RB corps is pretty pedestrian and needs a breakout from the currect stable of RB3s/RB4s to go alongside Kyren.

DAL and CHI (8) It’s no surprise to see either of these teams near the top of the standings. The Mud was a playoff team again last year, and the Armadillos are less than 3 years removed from winning both trophies. They’ve taken different paths to the halfway point, though. The Mud’s horsepower is largely coming from Jonathan Taylor who leads all players in fantasy points. The Armadillos lost Joe Burrow, but Javonte Williams is thriving and when CeeDee Lamb and Puka Nacua both get on the field, this team is dangerous. Question: When will the Mud unleash Quinshon Judkins who has 68.5 bench points?

MER (7.75) Mustangs is an apt nickname for this team which now features the gunslinging QB pair named Bo Nix and Jaxson Dart. Outside of the QBs, it’s the solid receiver corps that is keeping Mercer competitive. The running back crew here is the lowest-scoring in the league. Question: Will it be Nix most weeks or will the Mustangs’ coach try to play the hot hand?

BOX (7) Here’s the good news for the Blowfish: Saquon Barkley has scored MORE than Derrick Henry. Here’s the bad news: Saquon is 14th in RB scoring, behind (among others) Cam Skattebo and J.K. Dobbins. As if Penn State fans didn’t already have enough to shake their heads about, why Saquon? Amon-Ra St. Brown is a god and A.J. Brown is returning to form, but can Saquon get his groove back for the Blowfish?

PHI (6.25) Griffins fans are on a rollercoaster: The first half of the season has included wins of 103 and 123 points; and losses of 46 and 41.5 points. The RBs are explosive and can have high ceilings making the Griffins an explosive team, but Jared Goff is lagging behind his 2024 pace and none of the receivers are stepping in to produce elite numbers like their running back counterparts.

BOB and OCD (6) The Big Bang has been clobbered the past 5 weeks with opponent scores of 82.5, 88, 108, 123, and 91, but Oregon has still has managed an above-average weekly score only twice this season. They’ve also tried the hot hand approach at QB and made the wrong decision every time it would have mattered. Further south on the west coast, the Beach Dudes have a strong RB trio of Jacobs, Jeanty and Hall, but Kyler Murray has got to be a big disappointment in Orange County and the receivers room after Courtland Sutton is full of dice roll options.

HVV (4), KEY (3.5) and NCT (3) Our three lowest-scoring teams are also very much on a trejectory to be outside looking in when the playoff race starts taking shape unless things change pronto. The Violence has been hit with injuries (Omarion Hampton, Terry McLaurin) but 3rd-round pick Devante Adams’ 69.5 points leads the team, so there’s a lot of underperformers to blame. For the Longfellows, Chase Brown and Justin Jefferson have both come crashing back down to human status, straining the depth at those positions. And finally, the Thorobreds have thrown nearly all their saddles on Josh Allen, D’Andre Swift, and George Pickens who account for nearly 60% of New Chester’s points this year.
