Dallas Wins Points Championship
The Dallas Armadillos win the FFL-GOO league points championship for 2016, finishing the year with 1,213 points. New Chester finishes second with 1,159. The Fantasy Bowl champion Mud finish out of the money in a close third place, 26 points behind at 1,133.
This is the second time in the past three years that Dallas has captured the top points trophy. They also won the points championship in 2014. The Armadillos have now finished 1st or 2nd in total points in four of the past six seasons.
With the win of the points championship and a runner-up finish in the Fantasy Bowl, Dallas wins the most prize money this year. New Chester finishes 2nd in overall prize money. Approximate payouts this year will be:
MIM – Champions (425)
DAL – RunnerUp (300) + High Points (320) (620 total)
NCT – 3rd Place (250) + RunnerUp Points (260) (510 total)
MIA – 4th (200)
MER – 5th (175)
BOB – 6th (160)
The Orange County Beach Dudes get the dubious distinction of finishing with the lowest points this season, clocking in at 714 total points. In a season when 3 teams had 100+ point scores in a single week, the poor Beach Dudes finished the year with just 99 TOTAL POINTS for all their running backs combined. (And if you think this is a historic low, you would be wrong … it’s been worse for a few a teams at RB through the years, but none moreso than in 1997 when an FFL team managed to score only 29 points FOR THE YEAR combined at RBs. That team is also very familiar to Orange County – it was the Mission Viejo Impossibles.)
Orange County’s 10-game losing streak this season is the longest since New Chester lost 10 in a row in 2009. The Mud become the 6th team in league history to record a 10-game winning streak within a season. The longest winning streak in one season was an 11-game winning streak for the Griffins in 1995.
Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees TIED for the highest-scoring FFL player this year, each finishing at 283 points as a starter. David Johnson was highest-scoring RB (247), Jordy Nelson at receiver (157) and Justin Tucker at kicker (167). There were 43 fantasy players that posted 100+ points as starters this season. MassIll defeats Dallas in 111-58 Mudbath to win FB:XXV
The MassIll Mud entered Fantasy Bowl XXV as the #1 seed but also as a slight underdog to Dallas. In the end, it wasn’t even close — the Mud blew out the Armadillos 111-58 to win the franchise’s second league championship.
The Mud’s 53-point win is the largest margin of victory ever in FFL-GOO’s league title game. MIM’s 111 points was the second-most points ever scored in a Fantasy Bowl behind the 117 points Syracuse scored in 2013. Five MIM players finished in double digits, lead by RB Jay Ajayi (25 points) and WRs Jordy Nelson (24) and Sammy Watkins (18).
With their Fantasy Bowl win, the Mud finish the season with a league-high 10-game winning streak and a final record of 13-1. Only two other teams in the 25-year history of our league finished the year with only one loss: the 2012 Mercer Mustangs (14-1-1) and the 1997 Pennsylvania Wildcats (15-1).
The consolation game for 3rd place was much closer; the game was tied entering the Monday night NFL game, and New Chester pulled out a 56-51 win over Miami on the strength of Zeke Elliott’s Monday night game.
MassIll’s 111 points also vaulted them back into striking distance for the overall points awards. The top 2 teams in overall points take additional prize money, and going into the final week of the NFL season only 59 points separate the top three fantasy teams:
Dallas – 1150
New Chester – 1116 (34 points back)
MassIll – 1091 (59 points back)
Mud vs. Armadillos to face off in Fantasy Bowl XXV
The matchup is set for Fantasy Bowl XXV. The 25th consecutive championship game in our fantasy league will feature the #1 seed MassIll Mud facing off against the #4 seed Dallas Armadillos.
MassIll owner Ronnie Feldman — who was able to choose his opponent between Miami and Dallas for Week 15 — chose wisely. The Mud won a tight 50-46 contest over the Miami Muffdivers. Both teams fell short of their projected scores, but the Mud advance and improve their record to a league-best 12-1 going into the final.
Dallas improves to 10-4 and confidently advances to the final with a 80-49 win over second-seeded New Chester. The Thorobreds fell far short of their projected scored (68) while Dallas easily exceeded their projection (62). Dallas’ 80 points ties the team’s 3rd-highest single week score of the season. (Dallas also notably extends it’s lead in the overall points race, which was 1 point over NCT coming into this week.)
The Mud makes their first trip to the championship game in 12 years, and 4th overall trip to the Fantasy Bowl. They have a 1-2 record in previous appearances. The Graynbald Mud won Fantasy Bowl VII in 1998, and lost title games in both 2002 and 2004.
Dallas is making it’s 3rd trip to the Fantasy Bowl — all within the past 4 seasons. Dallas lost the title game in 2013, but returned and won Fantasy Bowl XXIII in 2014.
Wild Card round playoff wrap up
Congratulations to the two teams from Florida — Miami and Dallas — on their wins in the Wild Card round. The Armadillos had the week’s high score in the 80-39 thumping of the Big Bang. In the other game, the Muffdivers prevailed 55-44 over Mercer in a matchup of 6-6 teams.
During their playoff week byes, the Mud scored 40 points while the Thorobreds scored 67 points.
As the #1 overall seed this year, Mass Ill Mud owner Ronnie Feldman gets to choose his opponent for the semi-final round. Will the Mud’s opponent be Miami or Dallas?
The Mud will go Diving vs. Miami. Ronnie’s looking to get into the finals. “Daddy’s gotta pay the rent” he quipped.
Week 15 matchups:
#1 MIM Mud (11-1) vs. #6 MIA Muffdivers (7-6)
#2 NCT Thorobreds (10-2) vs. #4 DAL Armadillos (9-4)
Meanwhile, in the overall points race, it’s shaping up to be a 2-team race. Dallas leads New Chester by ONE POINT: 1012 to 1011 with 3 weeks remaining. The third-place team (MIM) is more than 80 points back.
