Violence erupts in Happy Valley
There’s more Violence in Happy Valley these days, but it’s not of the riot variety. Ross Hessler, owner of the Mission Viejo Impossibles, announced that he has sold his FFL franchise to a newly formed State College consortium, HaVoC, for an undisclosed amount. Across town in Newport Beach, Nightmare owner Dan Callahan announced that he has sold half of his team to Hessler.
John Trzeciak, one-quarter owner of the HaVoC group, said he was very pleased and exciting to be returning to the league and bringing an FFL franchise back to Happy Valley. Trzeciak is partnered with another former FFL owner, Michael Cerenzia, whose State College Bandits won Fantasy Bowl I. Two league newcomers, Jeff Ozarski and Chris Paret, round out the HaVoC consortium.
The new owners are looking forward to many hours of strategizing at franchise headquarters, Champ’s Sports Bar & Grill in Happy Valley, PA.
Trzeciak disclosed that the team will be renamed the Happy Valley Violence.
League founder and owner of the 2002 champion NY Griffins, Nick Fisher, is currently believed to be in Park City, Utah and could not be reached for comment. All parties involved indicated they took particular pleasure in negotiating these deals without Fisher’s knowledge.

* — split final money award for top points by an otherwise non-money-winning team.
Griffins are Fantasy Bowl XI Champs, 76-53 ; Keystone wins points title
The New York Griffins, making a record sixth appearance in the Fantasy Bowl, took home the championship trophy for 2002 with a 76-53 win over Graynbald. It is New York’s 2nd champsionship. The defending champion Keystone Longfellows denied the New York Griffins both trophies. Keystone outpaced NYG to win the overall points title by a 22-point margin over New York and a 30-point margin over GBM.
The final prize money slot for Remaining Non-Money Point Leader will be split between Boston and Dallas, both ending the season with 933 points. Tiebreakers are only applied to win-loss games. We have no tiebreakers specifically for points standings, so the money is split. “Both teams get a measly check that probably won’t buy a good case of beer, and for that they are both knocked out of the lottery and lose the ability to hold 6 players for 2003,” said one owner who prefered to remain anonymous. “Not that I’m bitter or anything,” he added.

Week 14 Notes
Wild Card: Keystone pulls the miraculous comeback with 32 points Monday night to tie Dallas 73-73 and gets the win via the bench points tiebreaker (20-8). The win sends KEY to the playoffs in the Wild Card slot. DAL drops to the #4 seed in the consolation bracket.
Divisions: The Froglickers capture the Paterno division in the final weekend, despite a loss to Boston. Mission Viejo couldn’t take advantage of the opening, losing to Richmond. FFL joins GBM and NYG as the division winners for 2002.
Fantasy Bowl Semi-Finals [and Seedings]:
- [1] Graynbald Mud (11-3) vs. [4] Keystone Longfellows (9-5)
- [2] New York Griffins (10-4) vs. [3] Frelinghuysen Froglickers (9-5)

Week 13 Notes
Imagine this scenario, if you will: Suppose the final scores for week 14 fall like this: NYG beats MER, DAL beats KEY, NPB beats NDV, and RMD beats MVO. If that happens, we will have a 5-team tie for the Wild Card slot. So don’t expect to find any permutations on all the various possibilities. I don’t get paid to do this, after all…
Cappelletti Division: NYG Griffins have clinched the division. NYG could end up tied with both MER and KEY, but the Griffins win the tiebreaker against both — 2-0 record vs. KEY this year; potential split with MER on the season but better (6-1) division record.
Engle Division: GBM Mud clinched their division last month, but loss this week to the Griffins leaves the door open for NYG to nail the #1 seed in the playoffs if they end up tied with best W-L record (GBM leads NYG by only 4 points overall).
Paterno Division: Up for grabs, but not in a head-to-head game. An FFL loss to BOS coupled with a MVO win over RMD would give the Impossibles the division crown. Otherwise, FFL wins the division.
Wild Card: As far as overall record is concerned, any of the following teams could potentially end up tied with the same W-L record for the WC slot: MER, KEY, DAL, NPB and the second-place team in the Paterno Division (either MVO or FFL). Obviously, DAL and NPB with 7-6 records are huge long-shots. With a win this week, KEY would likely clinch the WC holding tiebreakers over MER, FFL and MVO.
Consolation: Of the 8 teams mentioned in the various division scenarios above that do NOT make the top-tier playoffs, all but NPB are guaranteed a slot in the consolation bracket. NDV could steal the last spot here from NPB with win in Week 14 over NPB if the winning point margin is greater than 65 points.
Entirely Eliminated from all Playoff Possibility: MIA, BOS, BOB, RMD and SYR.

Week 12 Notes
Playoff Picture
- Cappelletti Division:
- NYG (8-4) – remaining vs. GBM and MER. Controls own fate.
- MER (8-4) – remaining vs. NDV and NYG. Controls own fate.
- KEY (7-5) – remaining vs. NPB and DAL. Needs big help to win division. Loses Wild Card (WC) tiebreaker with NYG. Would have edge in WC tiebreaker against MER. A win vs. NPB this week would also help in WC race.
- DAL (6-6) – remaining vs. RMD and KEY. Probably not mathetically eliminated from top-tier playoffs, but highly unlikely. One more win would probably lock up consolation bracket spot.
- RMD (4-8) – remaining vs. DAL and MVO. Very long shot for consolation slot.
- Engle Division:
- GBM (10-2) – remaining vs. NYG and BOB. Clinched division title, one win away from clinching #1 seed.
- NPB (7-5) – remaining vs. KEY and NDV. Not out of the WC hunt entirely, but needs help. Absolutely needs a win vs. KEY this week.
- NDV (5-7) – remaining vs. MER and NPB. Fighting for consolation spot.
- SYR (4-8) – remaining vs. BOB and GBM. Very long shot for consolation spot.
- Paterno Division:
- FFL (8-4) – remaining vs. MIA and BOS. Controls own fate. Tiebreaker loss this week to MVO leaves an opening for MVO to win the division should FFL lose one of it’s final two.
- MVO (7-5) – remaining vs. BOS and RMD. Win out combined with one loss by FFL and MVO wins the division. Would lose WC tiebreakers with NPB and DAL and did not play KEY this season, so WC slot is highly unlikely.
- BOS (4-8) – remaining vs. MVO and FFL. One big week away from being in the thick of points race with 5 weeks left. Also can play spoiler with division championship.
- BOB (4-8) – remaining vs. SYR and MIA. Very long shot for consolation slot.
- MIA (2-10) – remaining vs. FFL and SYR. Thanks for playing!

Week 10 Notes
Player of the Week — Tommy Maddox: 33 points (new all-time league high for QB)
Coulda been Co-Player of the Week — On a week when a new high is set for a QB for individual scoring, make note that TWO quarterbacks could have broken the record … Newport Beach Nightmare QB Mulc Bulger (Rams) would also have scored 33 points had he been in the starting lineup.
Nibsism of the Week — But of course! This time it was RB Mike Alstott who was on a bye week for the Raptors. Looking over Nibs’ roster, however, reveals that all of his players have now had their bye weeks. And yet … he still has that elusive “free agent” wide receiver — Jeff Graham — on his roster, so we might not have to retired the award quite yet.
Put Me In, Coach — Notable “bench” scores of Week 10:
NPB – Marc Bulger (33)
KEY – Jerry Porter (10)
DAL – Adam Vinatieri (16)
FFL – Reggie Wayne (14)
SYR – Kevin Faulk (17)
Week 9 Notes
Player of the Week — Antowain Smith: 26 points
Nibsism of the Week I, II and III — We’ve come to expect a Nibsism nearly every week from Nibs, but how about 3 of them? Yes indeed … he started 3 players who were on bye weeks: Brian Griese, Mike Anderson (both Broncos) and Deuce McAllister (Saints).
Nibsism of the Week IV — We haven’t come to expect a Nibsism from our illustrious lawyer friend in the Pacific Northwest, but the Big Bang started a bye week player as well: Broncos WR Rod Smith.
Put Me In, Coach — Notable “bench” scores of Week 9:
BOS – Chad Pennington (15)
BOS – LaMont Jordan (14)
MVO – Jon Kitna (21)
MVO – T.J. Duckett (11)
DAL – Mark Brunnell (12)
Week 8 Notes
Player of the Week — Deuce McAllister: 28 points
Nibsism of the Week — Nibs (again, of course) starts K Jeff Wilkins, who was on a bye week. Richmond wins anyway. France surrenders.
Put Me In, Coach — Notable “bench” scores of Week 8:
BOB – Tim Couch (17)
BOB – Marcel Shipp (12)
NDV – Steve McNair (14)
MVO – Derrick Mason (17)
DAL – Jay Feely (14)
Week 7 Notes
Player of the Week — Marshall Faulk: 43 points
Nibsism of the Week — Nibs (of course) starts WR Kevin Dyson, Titans, who was on a bye week.
Put Me In, Coach — Notable “bench” scores of Week 7:
FFL – Michael Vick (11)
BOS – Antonio Bryant (11)
GBM – Koren Robinson (17)
RMD – Jeff Wilkins (17)
Week 6 Notes
Player of the Week — Travis Henry: 26 points
Nibsism of the Week — Nibs (of course) starts WR Antonio Freeman, Eagles, who was on a bye week. And he still beat the previously-undefeated Newport Beach.
Put Me In, Coach — Notable “bench” scores of Week 6:
MER – Drew Brees (14)
KEY – Morten Andersen (10)
NYG – Trent Green (12)
