Wildcats capture points crown
1,105 points is 2nd highest in league history
The Boston Wildcats, losers of the past two Fantasy Bowls, regained one of the league trophies this year, winning the overall points championship. The Wildcats’ 1,105 points is the second-highest total posted in league history, following the 1998 New York Griffins’ 1209-point season.
The Griffins finish the year at number two in points with 990, and the Big Oregon Bang — despite missing the playoffs — finished third in points with 946 and captured the consolation points prize.
Blizzard beat Wildcats in Fantasy Bowl IX
The Syracuse Blizzard enjoyed a huge 25-point performance from QB Dante Culpepper and a 15-point performance from K Ryan Longwell en route to a 62-47 win over the Boston Wildcats to capture the 2000 Fantasy Bowl championship.
The third time was the charm for this franchise, who made 2 previous trips to the Fantasy Bowl — both losses. In Fantasy Bowl I, the then-Butler Blowfish lost 47-40 to the State College Bandits. In Fantasy Bowl VI, Syracuse lost to the (then-Pennsylvania) Wildcats 49-20.
It’s the second consecutive Fantasy Bowl loss for Boston, who were beaten 87-71 by the Griffins in Fantasy Bowl VIII.

Week 14 Notes
Records Fall
Never before in NFL history have more than 2 running backs rushed for over 200 yards in the same week. This week, 4 running backs exceeded 200 yards, and the Boston Wildcats benefitted significantly, starting three of them.
Three FFL records were set by the Wildcats: high team score (142 points); high individual RB performance (50 points, Mike Anderson); and high points for 3 running backs: 102 points — Anderson, Curtis Martin (26) and Corey Dillon (26).
Quoteable:
“all out of smoke and mirrors.. ” — Keystone owner Terry Muth.
Week 13 Notes
Playoff Bound:
New York, Boston and Syracuse all clinched playoff spots this weekend, with Mercer and Keystone battling it out in the final week of the regular season for the final playoff spot.
Both Boston and Syracuse clinched their divisions this week with wins. The Paterno Division will come down to the final week, as New York and Mercer play head-to-head with all the marbles on the line. A win by Mercer will clinch the division for the Mustangs and the Griffins will get the wildcard playoff slot. A win by the New York and the Griffins clinch the division, with Mercer in the hunt for the wildcard. For Keystone to clinch the wildcard, the Longellows need a win plus a New York win over Mercer plus Keystone need to score 19 more points than Mercer in Week 14.
For the point race, we have the most wide-open field in league history. Six teams have a legitimate shot at the points championship. NYG, BOS, SYR, MER, BOB and KEY are all within 59 points of each other. Interestingly, after these 6 teams there is a 118 point dropoff to the team in seventh place.
For the consolation playoff bracket, either KEY or MER (whichever doesn’t make top-tier playoffs) is in. The rest of the consolation contenders are playing each other this week. The winners of both the RMD vs. NDV game and the FFL vs. BOB game are guaranteed consolation-bracket spots. The fourth spot in the consolation bracket will go to either one of the losers from those two games or GBM or MVO, who both could jump into the mix with wins this week.
Quoteable:
“(*&%@&^#&!*(Faulk*^$^@%#@$ No mortal can recover that fast!! ” — Syracuse owner Doug Weaver.
“I’m thankful that Cleave had a bad week ….and hope he has a couple more.. ” — Keystone owner Terry Muth.
“No Hope my ass!!” — Syracuse owner Doug Weaver.
Week 12 Notes
Quoteable:
“I’m NOT placing Greise on IR….he’s just resting on MY bench. Ying will end up stealing him from me like Elam if I put him on IR. I’ve had Elam on my team for ages. I never though Ying would take advantage of a cellar dweller like me. But then again, I’m no longer in the cellar….it’s time to climb the ladder. Sorry Banger, you’re the first to give way to the Raptors this week!” — Richmond owner Chris Lieberman.
“No Joey, no Marshall, no Ricky – NO HOPE!!” — Keystone owner Terry Muth.
“I’m keeping my mouth shut.” — Syracuse owner Doug Weaver.
Week 11 Notes
Quoteable:
“70 points and we still can’t get a win. That lottery is looking better and better. Fire sale next week, if we don’t beat Syracuse.” — New Denver co-owner Mike White.
“So much for the Marshall plan…” — Keystone owner Terry Muth.
Week 7 Notes
Quotable:
“Team Zilby’s starting to think about quick pays with the Eggman – NOT!!!” — FrogLickers owner David Zilberfarb.
“Help!” — Mud co-owner Ronnie Feldman.
“I’m speechless..well not really. I’m no longer a Cellar dwellar and congrats to the Cleavs from their rise from the bottom to top of the division. Shit, I’m beating teams (3 in a row) starting Greise as QB…it was a move that prevented Cordell Stewart from giving me negative points. Really. Also, I’ll be betting on the Steelers and the Raptors this weekend ! Then again, maybe I should just leave a good thing alone and start Greise the rest of the season….would someone please beat Cleavs so I can win this thing. (Ying, there isn’t enough space on the site for my comments if this happens….we may even have a Raptor Victory Party with the winnings!)” — Raptors owner Chris Lieberman.
“Since all my receivers are equally marginal, this lineup is subject to frequent change as the mood strikes.” — Impossibles owner Ross Hessler.
“Paul, I wanted to respond to your “boring” comment but I was too busy counting our points. 353, 354, 355…” — Mustangs co-owner Phil Dellorso.
Week 6 Notes
Quotable:
“i think nick made sure he was playing me the week kurt warner was sitting out. can you spell CONSPIRACY” — Miami owner Pat Landy.
“Now that you mention it Eggo, Nick was probably supposed to play you last week and bumped the Longfellows up a week. Who ever heard of playing the same team two weeks in a row?” — Keystone owner Terry Muth.
“I am glad to see the last of Kurt Warner….ouch!” — Keystone owner Terry Muth.
“I’m in a division full of boring owners.” — Dallas owner Paul Gilgallon.
“Bore this!” — Griffins owner Nick Fisher, who is one of those “boring” Paterno Division owners.
“Hey Suzie-Q, at least the rest of the Paterno Division knows where we live. You don’t live in Dallas anymore! Change your damn team name! I suggest Orlando Small Furry Thing as befitting the stature of the owner’s manliness.” — Big Bang owner Wayne Rupert, another Paterno Division owner.
“I can only speak for myself, and yes, I am boring. And your point is??? ” — Impossibles owner Ross Hessler, yet another Paterno Division owner.
“We ought to take up a collection to pay for Paul and Sam to go to all of the remaining PSU games – I think my high school team could have beaten them yesterday.” — FrogLickers owner David Zilberfarb.
| MVO Impossibles 51 RMD Raptors 83 |
RMD “Nibs” and “3-game winning streak” in the same sentence? How many other signs of the apocalypse should we be watching for? MVO RB Edgerrin James has scored only 4 more points than RB Jerome Bettis has scored this season. |
| GBM Mud 17 SYR Blizzard 82 |
SYR So RB Jamal Anderson scored 0, WR Jimmy Smith only scored 5, and the Blizzard still rang up 82 points? Can you say h-o-t… GBM Ouch. The lowest point total ever for this franchise. The previous low (as the Los Angeles Riot!) was a 25-18 loss to the Virginia No-Names (now the Big Oregon Bang) in 1993. |
| MER Mustangs 78 BOB Big Bang 35 |
MER The Mustangs have steadily climbed back and this week grabbed the overall point lead. BOB RB Travis Prentice had a pretty memorable debut game (23 pts) but the rest of the team looks like it took the day off. |
| NYG Griffins 47 MIA Muffdivers 33 |
NYG The defending champs are back to the Mendoza line at 3-3 and you’d be hard-pressed to find a better corps of WRs in the league. MIA RB Eddie George is finally hitting his stride (23 pts) but it’s a tough week when you don’t have QB Kurt Warner or WR Torry Holt. |
| KEY Longfellows 40 NPB Nightmare 43 |
NPB The weekend after the Nightmare trades away 2 starters, they finally scratch out a win. KEY Hope the Longfellows are getting some luck off the field, because they find any luck on it. RB Marshall Faulk’s presence this week would have meant another W. |
| BOS Wildcats 40 DAL Armadillos 27 |
BOS With QB Jeff Garcia (24 pts) sitting on the bench this week, a QB controversy is brewing for the Wildcats. DAL QB Mark Brunell’s benching can’t be sitting too well with Armadillo fans. |
| NDV 2x4s 37 FFL FrogLickers 19 |
NDV WR Cris Carter has scored 0 in three out of five games this year. Not quite what they had in mind for the #2 draft pick. FFL Rough week across the board for the FrogLickers, including the absence of RB Emmitt Smith. |
Week 5 Notes
Quotable:
“I had better luck scoring in high school.” — Graynbald co-owner Ronnie Feldman.
“It would only be fair and decent of the Rams to run the ball against the hapless Chargers… “ — Keystone owner Terry Muth, who played 2 Rams RBs this week
| MER Mustangs 78 MVO Impossibles 50 |
MER Elvis Grbac is stepping up and the Mustangs are strong at all roster positions MVO QB Brett Favre and RB Jerome Bettis each outscored the rest of the team combined |
| MIA Muffdivers 75 KEY Longfellows 73 |
MIA Don’t be fooled by Miami’s 2-3 and record … the Muffdivers opponents are averaging 66 points a game, and that won’t continue all year KEY The Longfellows surge into the overall points lead despite another high-scoring loss |
| NYG Griffins 63 BOB Big Bang 68 |
NYG Had the Griffins started Bill Schroeder in place of Donald Hayes, they would have eclipsed the all-time high points by 3 WRs on a team BOB Marcus Robinson (20) and Cade McNown (18) rediscovered the end zone this week |
| DAL Armadillos 44 FFL Frog Lickers 55 |
DAL The Armadillos are still enjoying strong running backs and are weak at receiver. FFL Number one pick RB Ron Dayne was the only starter for the FrogLickers who failed to score. |
| BOS Wildcats 24 SYR Blizzard 39 |
BOS: The Wildcats certainly missed the services of RB Curtis Martin this week. SYR: The Blizzard are the only remaining undefeated team in the league. |
| NPB Nightmare 24 RMD Rattlin Raptors 36 |
NPB Call in an exorcist, because this Nightmare appears to be in a free fall RMD The Raptors have a winning record after 5 games for the first time since 1995 |
| GBM Mud 36 NDV 2x4s 18 |
GBM Kicker Jeff Wilkins ties the highest-ever point effort for a kicker with 23 points. NDV WR Cris Carter is not benefitting from the emergence of Dante Culpepper |
Week 4 Notes
Quotable:
“this is getting real old real quick. i even lost to nibs. it can’t get any worse than that.” — Miami owner Pat Landy.
“I’m sick of watching PSU loose…I’ll be at the tailgate next week vs Purdue… I have to scout this QB to see how good he really is.” — Richmond owner Chris Lieberman.
Week 3 Notes
Quotable:
“Looks like the season long bet with the Eggman is the only excitement left in FrogLicker-ville and MuffDiver-ville!!! “ — Frehlinghuysen owner David Zilberfarb.
“I may have a chance this year … things are serious in Raptor City. If I beat SYR this weekend, I’m playoff bound!” — Richmond owner Chris Lieberman.
Week 2 Note
Quotable this week:
“Cordell [sic] is awful….Steelers should put him at QB for Penn State. He’s benched the rest of the year unless I can get him reassigned as a WR….I’m officially a cellar dweller.” — Richmond owner Chris Lieberman
“The web page is awesome. Now that I have a job where I can see the internet all day long I use it more often. Thanks again for making us all look so professional.”— Dallas-in-Orlando owner Paul Gilgallon. (yeah, making all of you look professional certainly is a challenge. -ying)
“Go Buffalo!” — Graynbald co-owner Ronnie Feldman, who is starting 3 Bills players this week. (hey Ronnie, you know that Bills kicker Steve Christie is still available, too! -ying)
“Anybody else notice that the team the computer thought would score the least is our point leader – and that the team projected to do best was one of the lows of week one?” — Syracuse owner Doug Weaver.
