Big Bang wins Fantasy Bowl XII; Griffins, Wildcats finish 1-2 in points

Green Bay Packers kicker Ryan Longwell nailed 2 field goals and 5 PATs, delivering a come-from-behind win for the Big Oregon Bang in Fantasy Bowl XII. The Big Bang wins the championship with a 89-87 victory over the Philadelphia Griffins. The New Denver 2x4s enjoyed a huge game from Packers WR Javon Walker, overcoming a big deficit to edge Graynbald 71-70 in the game for third place. Dallas rode Ahman Green and Jerry Rice to overcome a 22-point deficit and beat the Boston Wildcats for the Consolation bracket. And the Orange County Dudes owe all other FFL owners a drink, having attained the notorious Cellar Dwellar status with a 62-24 loss to Syracuse.

In the overall points race, the Philadelphia Griffins capture the points trophy while the Boston Wildcats, a team that failed to make the playoffs, grab the prize for 2nd overall in points. Mercer takes the consolation points prize, with highest points of non-playoff teams.

Final standings, records, rosters, stats, scores, schedules have all been posted.

Skipped 4 draft picks

Week 14 Notes

The New Denver 2x4s captured the final playoff spot, winning the Wild Card with an easy 91-11 win over Miami. The Studs rode their own stud — Clinton Portis — to the victory. Portis’ 50 point effort tied the league’s all-time highest single player weekly score, a mark now shared with the Bronco’s Mike Anderson, who also notched 50 points in week 14 three years ago for the Boston Wildcats. The Wildcats also won this week, but must settle for the top seed in the Consolation bracket with Dallas, Mercer, and Happy Valley.

The playoff schedule guarantees that a new team will be competing for the league title. The winner of the NDV vs. BOB game will be making it’s first Fantasy Bowl appearance. The other playoff game, PHI vs. GBM, will be a rematch of last year’s championship game.

Week 7 Notes

Player’s union files suit against Raptors

Fantasy Football Flyer has learned that the Fantasy Football League Player’s Association has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against the Richmond “Rattlin” Raptors and their flamboyant owner, Chris Lieberman. The FFLPA’s suit cites Lieberman’s “gross negligence in failing to field a full roster of players,” according to Terrell Owens, the player’s representative. “He skipped half the draft and still hasn’t filled out the roster,” Owens points out. “We’re all playing special teams. Every play. We’re basically fucking sick of it.”

Other players on the Raptors team were more blunt, but none of them would go on record with Fantasy Flyer. “We’re carrying our own equipment and filling our own water bottles and washing our own jockstraps,” one player confided. “Our owner doesn’t even return our voice mail,” another player told Fantasy Flyer. “I wish I had been drafted by the Violence. They’ve got four owners!”

Chris Lieberman could not be reached for comment.

The Nightmare is over

For southern California fantasy fans, the nightmare is over. At the 2003 FFL draft, the Newport Beach franchise announced a name change for the team: Orange County Beach Dudes.

Griffins change stripes

The defending champions of the FFL will close a page in the history of one of the league’s most-awarded franchises at the start of the 2003 season by playing their games in Philadelphia. The Griffins, it has been announced by team owner Nick Fisher, will heretofore be known as the Philadelphia Griffins.

Violence erupts in Happy Valley

There’s more Violence in Happy Valley these days, but it’s not of the riot variety. Ross Hessler, owner of the Mission Viejo Impossibles, announced that he has sold his FFL franchise to a newly formed State College consortium, HaVoC, for an undisclosed amount. Across town in Newport Beach, Nightmare owner Dan Callahan announced that he has sold half of his team to Hessler.

John Trzeciak, one-quarter owner of the HaVoC group, said he was very pleased and exciting to be returning to the league and bringing an FFL franchise back to Happy Valley. Trzeciak is partnered with another former FFL owner, Michael Cerenzia, whose State College Bandits won Fantasy Bowl I. Two league newcomers, Jeff Ozarski and Chris Paret, round out the HaVoC consortium.

The new owners are looking forward to many hours of strategizing at franchise headquarters, Champ’s Sports Bar & Grill in Happy Valley, PA.

Trzeciak disclosed that the team will be renamed the Happy Valley Violence.

League founder and owner of the 2002 champion NY Griffins, Nick Fisher, is currently believed to be in Park City, Utah and could not be reached for comment. All parties involved indicated they took particular pleasure in negotiating these deals without Fisher’s knowledge.
