Game recaps by CBS Fantasy Football AI Sports Reporters
Big Oregon Bang won their 4th in a row, while Boxboro Blowfish took yet another hit to the loss column. Meanwhile, Orange Co. Beach Dudes beat New Chester Thorobreds within an inch of their lives as part of this week’s exciting action.
Bring the Pain
Jahmyr Gibbs (44.5 points) leads Big Oregon Bang to a win over Miami Muffdivers
It’s not that hard to win when you get the league’s top performance for the season, and Jahmyr Gibbs delivered that performance. Big Oregon Bang stomped all over Miami Muffdivers 103.5 to 76.5 behind 44.5 points from Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs hasn’t been messing around recently, performing better than any other starter over the last three weeks. His final touchdown (he had three total) was this 69-yard burst on the first play in overtime.
Big Oregon Bang did well despite having to deal with Bhayshul Tuten and Baker Mayfield, who combined to drop 2 points. Mayfield threw for just 41 yards (and two interceptions) before exiting at halftime with a shoulder injury.
Meanwhile, Stefon Diggs had avoided having a bad day for Miami Muffdivers since week six’s 1.5 point performance, but he sure didn’t have it this week. Diggsy was one of three big underperformers, combining with Kyle Pitts and Chris Boswell to notch 6 points. Diggs’ performance this week broke his five game streak of surpassing his projections. His performances have closely tracked the fortunes of Miami Muffdivers this season, as they have gone 2 – 3 when he fails to meet his expectations, and 4 – 1 when he meets them.
In most other games, Miami Muffdivers’ five overperforming players (led by Christian McCaffrey, 18.5 points) would have brought home a win. A 18.5 point day represents another fine effort from McCaffrey, who is currently the 2nd best player in the league.
With the win, Big Oregon Bang continues their four-game streak of success, which gives them a 7 – 4 record. The loss drops Miami Muffdivers’ record to an identical 7 – 4.
Hurts So Good
Jalen Hurts’ 23 points were too much for Boxboro Blowfish
After getting knocked out of the playoffs by Boxboro Blowfish last year, Coach Ron Yeany had a chance to exact some revenge, and he took advantage of it. Connecticut Wildcats ended up on top against Boxboro Blowfish, winning 60 to 52.
The win gets Connecticut Wildcats back above .500 at 6 – 5. Another defeat makes it five in a row for Boxboro Blowfish, dropping their record to 3 – 8.
Jalen Hurts has been coming through for Connecticut Wildcats all year, and this week was no different. Connecticut Wildcats relied heavily on Hurts, who produced 23 points. He accounted for three total touchdowns in the first 19 minutes of Sunday’s game (and sadly, no more after).
J.J. McCarthy got his first start for Boxboro Blowfish this week, but it might be his last. Boxboro Blowfish can place the blame for this loss squarely on McCarthy, who scored -2 points. That was fewer than every other quarterback this season. He had thrown for just 87 yards before throwing his second pick of the day.
Coach Yeany has made more lineup changes than any other coach in the league, but couldn’t find the right mix this week. He started Ricky Pearsall instead of Colston Loveland, despite the experts’ prediction that Loveland should have played.
This decision shaved 8 points from Connecticut Wildcats’ score, which–thankfully for Coach Yeany–didn’t matter much this game. Coach Yeany’s lineup moves pushed him into negative territory for the season (just barely, at 0.5 points worse than the experts).
Out of the Darkness
Happy Valley Violence avoids 6th loss in a row with an assist from Hunter Henry
Happy Valley Violence beat Dallas Armadillos both times they played last year and kept that trend going this week. Happy Valley Violence (3 – 8) got past Dallas Armadillos (4 – 8), winning 63.5 to 58.5.
The game gave sweet relief to one team, even though both teams needed it. Dallas Armadillos came into the game on a three game losing streak The win brought Happy Valley Violence’s five game losing streak to an end.
Three players (Hunter Henry, DJ Moore, and Harrison Butker) delivered victory to Happy Valley Violence, getting 51 of their team’s 63.5 points. Quite an improvement for Moore, who last week managed only 0.5 points. He showed off his route running skills to draw first blood in Chicago.
Meanwhile, Dallas Armadillos had many underperformers, but Jordan Mason stood out, recording only 2 points. That makes it five straight games where Mason has underperformed the league average running back.
Coaches Paul Gilgallon and Sam McClain can hardly be blamed for this loss, as they set a perfect lineup this week. That wouldn’t have happened if they had just played it safe. They went with Jaylen Warren over the higher ranked Isaiah Davis.
This decision netted Coaches Paul Gilgallon and Sam McClain an extra 11 points. The good decision is just more of the same for Coaches Paul Gilgallon and Sam McClain, whose gameday decisions have been some of the best in the league this season.
All Eyes on Me
Jaxon Smith-Njigba drops 29 points in leading Frelinghuysen Froglickers to victory
Mercer Mustangs didn’t want to rock the boat this week. Having been projected to score the fewest points, they went out and did just that. Coach Jim Waugh’s squad didn’t even sniff the winner’s podium, losing to Frelinghuysen Froglickers 64 to 33. Mercer Mustangs’ posted the 3rd lowest score of the season in the loss.
Frelinghuysen Froglickers now have the best record in the league at 8 – 3. The loss drops Mercer Mustangs’ record to 6 – 5.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba separated himself from the rest of the crew on Frelinghuysen Froglickers, scoring 29 points. No surprise there, as he is currently the 3rd best player in the league. He broke the Seahawks’ single-season receiving yard record (reminder: it’s Week 12).
Meanwhile, there were plenty of chefs cooking up this week’s loss for Mercer Mustangs. They were brought down by eight underperformers, the worst of whom was Tyler Shough (2 points).[1] Shough might be heading back to the waiver wire after getting picked up before this game.
Both teams face trouble in the upcoming schedule. Mercer Mustangs will be going against Chicago Mud next week. Chicago Mud will enter the game with Jonathan Taylor, who has been the best player in the league.
Meanwhile, Frelinghuysen Froglickers will be playing Miami Muffdivers next week. Miami Muffdivers lost this week, and will be looking to avoid their first back-to-back losses.
My Bad
Coach Muth’s lineup and Jameson Williams’ performance cost Keystone Longfellows the game
Coach Ronnie Feldman really needed someone to lend him a hand and help end his three game losing streak. Coach Terry Muth were only too happy to help. Chicago Mud had just enough against Keystone Longfellows, winning 55 to 50.5. Chicago Mud’s win ended Keystone Longfellows’ three game winning streak.
The loss drops Keystone Longfellows back below .500 at 5 – 6. The win brings Chicago Mud to 7 – 4.
They were led by the trio of Andres Borregales, Quinshon Judkins, and Michael Pittman, who combined for 74% of their team’s points. Borregales scored 17 points, which were the most of any kicker this week. His performance also stopped his three game streak of not meeting his projections.
Meanwhile, Keystone Longfellows had plenty of duds in the loss. Jameson Williams was the worst of a five man group of underperformers, tallying zero points. This is the 3rd time this year that he was the worst starter on his team. He deserves no credit for Detroit’s overtime win, failing to catch any of his three targets.
Coach Muth have to place a big part of the blame for this loss on themself. They started Alec Pierce instead of Jauan Jennings, despite the experts’ prediction that Jennings should have played.
This decision cost Keystone Longfellows a total of 9 points, which cost them the game. Coach Muth might want to draw a lesson from what happened, as their team has a much better record when they follows the experts’ opinions on who to start.
Beat Down
Wan’Dale Robinson’s 22.5 points help Orange Co. Beach Dudes crush New Chester Thorobreds
In a week where there were three blowouts, this was the biggest. Orange Co. Beach Dudes thoroughly dominated New Chester Thorobreds, winning 105.5 to 56.5. That win stopped New Chester Thorobreds’ winning streak at three games.
The win brings Orange Co. Beach Dudes’ record to 6 – 5, while dropping New Chester Thorobreds to 5 – 6.
Orange Co. Beach Dudes got good efforts from almost everyone on the squad, with six players topping their positional averages. Wan’Dale Robinson was the best of the bunch, totaling 22.5 points. That performance was good for 4th place among all players this week.[2] He had 106 yards and a TD (a big one) in the first quarter alone.
Meanwhile, D’Andre Swift was the main culprit in New Chester Thorobreds’ loss, scoring -0.5 points. That’s the fewest points that he’s scored this year. New Chester Thorobreds has never won when he failed to hit his expected points, going 0 – 3.
Next week will see New Chester Thorobreds taking on the 3 – 8 Boxboro Blowfish. Good timing, as Boxboro Blowfish will come into the matchup on a five game losing streak. As for Orange Co. Beach Dudes, they will square off against Keystone Longfellows.
Griffins Fly High
The Philadelphia Griffins posted 75 points during their bye week, good for 4th-highest score of the week and earning them one FFL point.
