Game recaps by CBS Fantasy Football AI Sports Reporters

Big Oregon Bang took yet another hit to the loss column, while Chicago Mud won their 4th in a row. That plus a crushing loss for Philadelphia Griffins in this week’s ‘Around the League’ report.

Smooth Sailing

Ja’Marr Chase has 27 points in blowout win over Orange Co. Beach Dudes

Coach David Zilberfarb looked like they were trying to give away this game with their lineup decisions, but the team just wouldn’t quit. Frelinghuysen Froglickers destroyed Orange Co. Beach Dudes, winning 91 to 57. Frelinghuysen Froglickers’ 91 points didn’t just give them a win, but moved them into the top spot for points in the season as well.

The loss drops Orange Co. Beach Dudes back below .500 at 3 – 4. The win brings Frelinghuysen Froglickers to 4 – 2.

Ja’Marr Chase was the clear leader on Frelinghuysen Froglickers this week, dropping 27 points. After Chase’s performance, he moved up to being the 4th best player in the league. He is now the third player with 6,000+ receiving yards and 50+ receiving touchdowns in their first five seasons (and you might recognize the other two).

Meanwhile, there’s no pointing fingers in Orange Co. Beach Dudes’ loss as they failed all over the place. They had five underperformers, with Ashton Jeanty (0.5 points) being the worst.[1] That’s the fewest points that he’s scored so far this year.

Although their team won, Coach Zilberfarb didn’t have the best game personally. They went with Dallas Goedert over the higher ranked DeVonta Smith. This decision took a 24 point chunk out of Frelinghuysen Froglickers’ final score, which ultimately didn’t make a difference in the final outcome.

Go Bo, Go!

Bo Nix drops 31 points in leading Mercer Mustangs to victory

Mercer Mustangs had never lost when Bo Nix overperformed his expectations, and that held true again this week. Nix was the key component as Mercer Mustangs skated by New Chester Thorobreds pretty easily, winning 94 to 72. His 31 point performance topped all but one player so far this season. He put up 218 total yards and FOUR total touchdowns in the 4th quarter on Sunday.

Mercer Mustangs also got a better-than-expected performance from Jake Ferguson, who beat his projections by 8.7 points. Ferguson’s 15.5 points were the 3rd most of any tight end this season.

Meanwhile, Coaches mike white and Rich Sladic can look to Kareem Hunt and Michael Penix Jr. when passing out blame for the loss. The two combined to score only 7 points. Hunt’s zero points made him the worst starter on his team for the 2nd time this season.

Despite the loss, New Chester Thorobreds had three standouts, with Will Reichard, D’Andre Swift, and Tee Higgins notching 50.5 points. Reichard might have found a home after getting picked up off the waiver wire this week.

The win was Mercer Mustangs’ 3rd in their last four games, bringing their record to 4 – 3. The loss drops New Chester Thorobreds’ record to 2 – 4.

Don’t Count Me Out

Jonathan Taylor and Chicago Mud beat the odds to get the win

Chicago Mud started week seven with the best record in the league, and finished week seven with the best record in the league. They got the job done against Happy Valley Violence, winning 56.5 to 42. Chicago Mud would have only beaten one other team this week, so Coach Ronnie Feldman got pretty lucky with the schedule.

The win makes it four in a row for Chicago Mud, giving them a record of 5 – 1. The loss was Happy Valley Violence’s 3rd in their last four games, bringing their record to 2 – 5.

Chicago Mud stumbled big time right from the get-go. Caleb Williams really stunk it up, scoring zero points. No other player scored fewer points than that this week.

Chicago Mud were also hurt by Alvin Kamara falling 6.7 points short of the average running back. Kamara has now underperformed the experts’ predictions in five straight games.

Meanwhile, Happy Valley Violence were at least doing decent. Davante Adams’s 20.5 points were the key contribution. Adams’ performance this week stopped his three game streak of not meeting his projections.

Going into late Sunday, our projections gave Chicago Mud only a 7.8% chance of winning. Coach Feldman’s squad blew those projections out of the water. Jonathan Taylor scored 11.5 points more than he was expected to, which was enough to bring Chicago Mud back from the dead and into the winner’s circle.

Easy Does It

Brandon Aubrey made it rain for Dallas Armadillos

The experts predicted that Dallas Armadillos was going to have the easiest time of any team this week, and that now looks like a good call. They had just enough against Big Oregon Bang, winning 91 to 83.5.

Dallas Armadillos are now 3 – 4 after picking up their first back-to-back wins of the season. The defeat puts Big Oregon Bang on a three game losing streak, which leaves them with a 3 – 4 record.

Dallas Armadillos have been relying on Brandon Aubrey all year, and he came through again this week. Aubrey was part of a three-man-team, joining with CeeDee Lamb and Javonte Williams to produce 52 points. Aubrey’s performance paced Dallas Armadillos for the 2nd time this year. No surprise there, as he is currently the best kicker in the league.

Michael Carter has been dead weight throughout Big Oregon Bang’s losing streak, and this week brought more of the same. Carter was the worst of five underperformers, putting up 1 point. He has now been the worst performing starter in the league over the last three weeks.

The strength of schedule diverges for these squads next week. Dallas Armadillos will be going against Frelinghuysen Froglickers. Frelinghuysen Froglickers have been racking up the points recently, posting two straight 85+ point games.

Meanwhile, someone will finally get relief next week when Big Oregon Bang and Keystone Longfellows clash, as they each come into the game on three game losing streaks. Big Oregon Bang will have to put their running back depth to the test in that one, as Jahmyr Gibbs has his bye week.

Take Note

Coach Yeany and Rashee Rice secure the win

Coach Ron Yeany felt that he knew his team better than the projection experts, and he was right. He started Rhamondre Stevenson instead of Tony Pollard, despite the experts’ prediction that Pollard should have played.

This decision netted Coach Yeany an extra 10 points and was the difference in the game, as Connecticut Wildcats (4 – 2) earned a nice victory over Keystone Longfellows (2 – 4), winning 75.5 to 66.5.

Connecticut Wildcats got a nice group performance in the win, as four players beat their positional averages. Rashee Rice was just a bit ahead of the others, recording 16.5 points.[2] That made him the top performer on Connecticut Wildcats for the first time this year.

Connecticut Wildcats also got a big effort from Jalen Hurts (11.3 points above expected). Hurts smoked one of the best passing defenses in the NFL with three passing touchdowns and a perfect passer rating.

Meanwhile, Coach Terry Muth will have a hard time pinning the blame for this loss on any particular player. Jameson Williams was the worst of a five man group of underperformers on Keystone Longfellows, scoring zero points. A key injury will make this loss for Keystone Longfellows sting even more. Darren Waller didn’t record a catch before exiting Sunday’s game with a pectoral injury.

Predict This!

A.J. Brown and Boxboro Blowfish flip the script against Philadelphia Griffins this week

This was expected to be a blowout and it was. The surprise was who blew out who. Boxboro Blowfish stomped all over Philadelphia Griffins 77.5 to 46. Blowouts are typical for these teams these days, as both of them were in blowouts last week as well.

The win brings Boxboro Blowfish back to even at 3 – 3. The loss drops Philadelphia Griffins’ record to 3 – 4.

When Coaches cathy weaver and Doug Weaver entertained thoughts of winning this game, they probably didn’t include the two players that ended up leading the way. A.J. Brown scored 23 points, while Kayshon Boutte scored 9. Brown’s 23 points represent the most he’s had this year. His two TD game was his first with multiple scores since October of 2023.

Boxboro Blowfish managed to rise above the bad efforts from Chuba Hubbard and Saquon Barkley (4.5 points total). Bad performances are pretty common these days for Barkley, who has now underperformed the experts’ predictions in five straight games.

Meanwhile, this week’s loss for Philadelphia Griffins was a true group effort. They were brought down by seven underperformers, the worst of whom was Rome Odunze (1 point). Philadelphia Griffins only had one player who gave a passable performance this week, with Bijan Robinson scoring 13 points.

Bye week Muffdivers secure a point via high scores

Miami was on a bye this week, but with 79.5 points finished in the top half of all teams this week, earning one FFL point.
