Game recaps by CBS Fantasy Football AI Sports Reporters
Boxboro Blowfish headed to victory on the back of Coaches Cathy Weaver and Doug Weaver, while Coach Nicholas Fisher could only dream of reaching such heights, as he was busy costing his team the game. Meanwhile, Pat Landy won by setting a perfect lineup. Read all about it in this week’s report.
Lineup Nirvana
Coach Waugh earned a perfect lineup and Ka’imi Fairbairn gave a big performance
Mercer Mustangs came into the game on a three game streak of improving their point total. They broke their streak, but still got the W. Coach Jim Waugh’s squad slid by Dallas Armadillos, winning 84.5 to 80.5.
This loss brings Dallas Armadillos’ losing streak to four in a row, dropping their record to 1 – 4. The win brings Mercer Mustangs to 3 – 2.
Mercer Mustangs were led by the tag team of Ka’imi Fairbairn and Jake Ferguson, who together delivered 35.5 points. Fairbairn himself scored 19 points, which topped all kickers this week.
Meanwhile, this week’s loss for Dallas Armadillos was a true group effort. They had six underperformers, with Malik Washington (2 points) being the worst. Washington’s 2 points made him the worst starter on his team for the 1st time this season. He also has yet to give Dallas Armadillos even one week of above average wide receiver play this season.
On the coaching front, Coach Waugh followed the experts’ advice for each position this week and ended up with a perfect lineup. This is the first time this year that Coach Waugh has pulled that off.
Brainiac at Work
Great coaching decisions and Matthew Stafford’s performance pay off for Boxboro Blowfish
Boxboro Blowfish took on Keystone Longfellows two times last year and won each time. The result this week then, was not surprising. Boxboro Blowfish got past Keystone Longfellows, winning 64.5 to 58. Boxboro Blowfish won despite having their lowest point total for the year.
Both teams now sit at two wins and two losses for the season.
Boxboro Blowfish relied heavily on Matthew Stafford, who notched 24 points. That makes it four straight games of overperforming expectations for Stafford. His age sure wasn’t showing this week, especially on plays like this.
Meanwhile, Coach Terry Muth will find no easy scapegoat for this week’s loss. Drake Maye was the worst of a five man group of underperformers on Keystone Longfellows, posting only 5 points.[1] Maye’s performance ended a three game streak of beating the experts’ projections. He didn’t throw a touchdown this week, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying.
Coaches cathy weaver and Doug Weaver can pat themself on the back for this week’s victory. They started two players that the experts thought should be riding the pine. One of those picks, Matthew Stafford, worked out. The other pick, Chris Rodriguez Jr., did not.
Overall, these decisions netted Boxboro Blowfish a total of 13.5 points, which ended up winning them the game. Good decisions are nothing new for Coaches cathy weaver and Doug Weaver, who have been the best game-day coaches in the league so far.
Bulls-eye!
Perfect lineup and Christian McCaffrey’s performance give Miami Muffdivers the win
After last week’s blowout, Orange Co. Beach Dudes got a big change of pace with this week’s tight contest versus Miami Muffdivers. They didn’t have quite enough against Miami Muffdivers, losing 74.5 to 71. Losing by only 3.5 points, Orange Co. Beach Dudes suffered the closest loss this week.
The loss drops Orange Co. Beach Dudes’ record to 2 – 3, while the win brings Miami Muffdivers to 3 – 2.
Miami Muffdivers had three players lead the way, with Christian McCaffrey, Stefon Diggs, and Patrick Mahomes producing 55 points. That’s all in a day’s work for Mahomes, who is the 2nd best quarterback in the league. He finished with over 300 yards, but that doesn’t count the 99-yard reception he threw to the other team.
Meanwhile, it will be difficult for Coaches dan callahan and Ross Hessler to fault any one player for the loss. Orange Co. Beach Dudes were brought down by four underperformers, the worst of whom was Jakobi Meyers (2 points). Underperforming is the new normal for Meyers, who has gone four straight games without hitting his projected point total.
Looking at lineup decisions, Coach Pat landy wound up with a perfect lineup this week, albeit by following the CBSSports projections to the letter. He has now set the most perfect lineups of anyone in the league.
Uh…Maybe Next Time
Jonathan Taylor helps Chicago Mud win a laugher this week against Big Oregon Bang
Chicago Mud absolutely embarrassed Big Oregon Bang this week, winning by the score of 108 to 55.5. That 52 point win is the biggest blowout so far this season.
The win brings Chicago Mud to 4 – 1, and sends them to the top of our internal power rankings.
Chicago Mud had almost all of their firepower going off during the early Sunday slate, and they came through. Jonathan Taylor carried the water, scoring 26.5 points. Taylor was a menace in the redzone this week, scoring not once, not twice, but three times from within 10 yards.
Chicago Mud also got a solid effort from J.K. Dobbins (6.2 points above expected). Meanwhile, Coach Wayne rupert’s squad just couldn’t quite get it going. Spencer Shrader kept the scoreboard operator relaxed, coming up with only 2 points. That was the fewest of any kicker this week.
Going into the Sunday late games, Chicago Mud were already looking good. After Deebo Samuel and Sam LaPorta dropped 30.5 points, the contest was over.
Leading the Charge
Kareem Hunt put New Chester Thorobreds on his back for the win
Coach Nicholas Fisher has to be kicking himself for his lineup decisions this week. Perhaps scared off by Rico Dowdle’s 2 point performance last week, Coach Fisher left him on the bench in favor of Woody Marks, despite the experts’ prediction that Dowdle should have played.
This decision cost Philadelphia Griffins a total of 26.5 points and cost them the game, as they lost to New Chester Thorobreds (1 – 3), 53.5 to 41.5.
New Chester Thorobreds were led by the trio of Kareem Hunt, George Pickens, and Josh Allen, who combined for 72% of their team’s points. That makes it three straight games where Allen has outperformed the league average quarterback. The hot streak has left him as the best quarterback in the league.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia Griffins were having trouble reaching paydirt, getting into the end zone only one time. That was the lowest TDs total of any team this week.
New Chester Thorobreds’ next game will be against Connecticut Wildcats in a rematch from week one. New Chester Thorobreds lost the previous matchup 87 to 68. Coaches mike white and Rich Sladic will no doubt be hoping that Josh Allen can drop 34 points like he did when they last went against Connecticut Wildcats.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia Griffins will be playing Big Oregon Bang next week.
Breakout Bill
Jacory Croskey-Merritt scores 21 points to help put away Frelinghuysen Froglickers
After last week’s 65 point effort, Happy Valley Violence came through big time this week. They ended up on top against Frelinghuysen Froglickers, winning 91 to 78. The win brings Happy Valley Violence’s record to 2 – 3, while dropping Frelinghuysen Froglickers to 2 – 2.
Happy Valley Violence had several players step up in the win, as four starters beat their positional averages. Jacory Croskey-Merritt was the best of the bunch, putting up 21 points.[2] Bill’s performance this week ended a three game streak of failing to perform at a league average level. Croskey-Merritt, who was a 7th-round pick, got the chance to talk to another notable late round pick.
Meanwhile, Geno Smith stuck out as the worst performer for Frelinghuysen Froglickers, recording only 2 points. Smith might be heading back to the waiver wire after getting picked up before this game. His two picks this week only solidified his role as the league leader in that area.
Next week will see Happy Valley Violence taking on the 2 – 3 Orange Co. Beach Dudes. That contest will be a rematch from week one, when Happy Valley Violence lost 68.5 to 51.
As for Frelinghuysen Froglickers, they will square off against Keystone Longfellows. Keystone Longfellows will have to put their wide receiver depth to the test in that one, as Justin Jefferson has his bye week.
Wildcats snare a point posting a big bye week score
The Connecticut Wildcats were on a bye this week but posted 99.5 points behind strong outings from Kyren Williams and Emeka Egbuka. The Wildcats’ score was the second-highest in the league this week, earning Connecticut a scoring point in the standings.
