Game recaps by CBS Fantasy Football AI Sports Reporters

Connecticut Wildcats held out for quite a while, but finally took their first loss this week after falling to Miami Muffdivers. That plus a crushing loss for Dallas Armadillos in this week’s ‘Around the League’ report.

Leading the Charge

Drake London brings the goods in a game against Boxboro Blowfish

The omens did not look good for Big Oregon Bang coming into the game. They had scored the second fewest points of any team this season, while Boxboro Blowfish had scored the second most points of any team. But then, this is why they play the game.

Big Oregon Bang had just enough against Boxboro Blowfish, winning 94 to 88. The win brings Big Oregon Bang’s record to 3 – 1, while dropping Boxboro Blowfish to 1 – 2.

Big Oregon Bang had two main stars in Drake London and Bucky Irving, who together posted 36.5 points. Irving got the bulk of his 102 receiving yards on this 72-yard score.

Meanwhile, the loss for Boxboro Blowfish came down to a pretty simple factor: they didn’t go anywhere. Collectively, they only managed to gain 326 yards rushing and receiving. That was the lowest yards gained total of any team this week.

A perfect lineup would have given Coaches cathy weaver and Doug Weaver a win in this one. They started Dalton Kincaid instead of Khalil Shakir, despite the experts’ prediction that Shakir should have played.

This decision took a 5 point chunk out of Boxboro Blowfish’s final score. If Coaches cathy weaver and Doug Weaver had left Kincaid on the bench and also started Shakir, Boxboro Blowfish would have won the game.

Taking the Reins

Bo Nix put Mercer Mustangs on his back for the win

Mercer Mustangs came into the game as the biggest underdog this week, but they didn’t let that get them down. They made it past Philadelphia Griffins, winning 94.5 to 88.5. The win is part of a larger trend for Mercer Mustangs. In each of the last three weeks they have scored more points than the week before.

The result gets both squads back to a .500 record at 2 – 2.

Bo Nix did about as good for Mercer Mustangs this week as he did bad last week. Nix led a very balanced group of four overperformers for Mercer Mustangs, delivering 22 points. That was good for 3rd place among all quarterbacks this week. He showed off his electric arm in spinning this frozen rope downfield between two defenders.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia Griffins saw four different players underperform, and while none of them particularly stuck out, Jared Goff and his 8 points was officially the worst.[1] Coach Nicholas Fisher has to be used to bad scores from Goff, who has been the worst performer on Philadelphia Griffins more times than any other player.

Both teams have good news in the upcoming schedule. Next week will see Mercer Mustangs taking on the 1 – 3 Dallas Armadillos. Good timing, as Dallas Armadillos will come into the matchup on a three game losing streak.

As for Philadelphia Griffins, they will square off against New Chester Thorobreds. New Chester Thorobreds will come into the game looking for their first win.

One for the Books

Miami Muffdivers pull off an historic beat down against Connecticut Wildcats this week

Connecticut Wildcats came into this week’s match-up on a three-game win streak, but Miami Muffdivers put an end to that. Miami Muffdivers made it look easy against Connecticut Wildcats, winning 96 to 52.5. The 43 point margin that separated these teams represents the biggest blowout of the season so far.

The win brings Miami Muffdivers back to even at 2 – 2. The loss is the first of the season for Connecticut Wildcats, dropping their record to 3 – 1.

Coach Pat landy put Kenneth Gainwell into the lineup for the first time, and he came through. Although Miami Muffdivers won with a balanced effort, Gainwell was the first among equals, dropping 23 points. He had to be the most surprising big performer this week, having been projected to score only 4.8 points.

Patrick Mahomes helped out as well, exceeding his projected point total by 9.1 points. Mahomes became the fastest player to reach 250 passing touchdowns (116 games) thanks to his four-TD performance this week. Miami Muffdivers overcame bad performances from three players: Ladd McConkey, Jerry Jeudy, and Chris Boswell, who collectively came up with 7 points.

Meanwhile, there’s no pointing fingers in Connecticut Wildcats’ loss as they failed all over the place. Rhamondre Stevenson was the worst of a seven man group of underperformers, posting only 2.5 points.1 Emeka Egbuka was the only player on the team that didn’t underperform, scoring 15 points. Egbuka has now bested the average wide receiver’s point total in every game so far this year.

Well, it’s Still a Win…

Frelinghuysen Froglickers and Chicago Mud both tried to lose this one

Frelinghuysen Froglickers were projected to have the most points this week, but they uh…fell a little short. They could not make it much of a game, losing to Chicago Mud 58 to 37. The two teams combined for the lowest score so far this season.

The loss drops Frelinghuysen Froglickers’ record to 2 – 1, while the win brings Chicago Mud to 3 – 1.

Wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Michael Pittman were the prime movers for Chicago Mud, producing 13 and 9.5 points, respectively. Despite winning, Chicago Mud struggled to score points due to six underperforming players, of whom Caleb Williams (6 points) was the worst.1 Williams hopefully has some credit left over from last week’s 22 point performance.

Meanwhile, Coach David Zilberfarb will have a hard time pinning the blame for this loss on any particular player. Frelinghuysen Froglickers were brought down by eight underperformers, the worst of whom was Lamar Jackson (5 points).1 Jackson fell farther short of his expected points than any other player this week.

Derrick Henry has to share in some of the blame as well, coming up with 8.5 fewer points than he was expected to. Bad performances are pretty common these days for Henry, who has now underperformed the experts’ predictions in three straight games.

No Worries

Ashton Jeanty leaves Dallas Armadillos in the rear view mirror

Orange Co. Beach Dudes didn’t give Dallas Armadillos a chance this week, blowing past them 107.5 to 68. Besides the victory, Coaches dan callahan and Ross Hessler can brag that they posted the highest score in the league so far.

The win evens up Orange Co. Beach Dudes’ record at 2 – 2. The loss makes it three in a row for Dallas Armadillos, which gives them a 1 – 3 record.

After coming up with all of 4 points last week, Ashton Jeanty came up clutch this week. Jeanty joined up with Josh Jacobs to score 51% of Orange Co. Beach Dudes’ points. Jeanty alone scored 30 points, which were the most of any player this week. He exploded for three total touchdowns this week ( maybe it’s because he went back to his signature stance).

Meanwhile, Dallas Armadillos had three stooges, with DJ Moore, Daniel Jones, and Jordan Mason dropping 14.5 points. Danny Dimes hadn’t thrown an interception heading into Sunday’s matchup, but there’s a first ( and second) time for everything.

Coaches Paul Gilgallon and Sam McClain seem to have forgotten to set their lineup this week. They left Jaylen Warren in the game, despite the fact that he was a guaranteed zero points.

That cost their team 5 points, which would have helped make the final score slightly less embarrassing. This is the first time this year that Coaches Paul Gilgallon and Sam McClain’s decisions have cost their team points.

Yep, That’s It

David Montgomery nets exactly zero points in loss to Keystone Longfellows

Keystone Longfellows didn’t have too many spare points in their win against Happy Valley Violence, taking this one 70.5 to 65. The 70.5 points that Keystone Longfellows dropped were the most they scored so far this year. The win brings Keystone Longfellows’ record to 2 – 1, while dropping Happy Valley Violence to 1 – 3.

Keystone Longfellows got a nice group performance in the win, as four players beat their positional averages. Chase McLaughlin was just a bit ahead of the others, notching 19 points. No other kicker scored more points than that this week. His performance was also the 3rd best of any kicker this season.

Meanwhile, Happy Valley Violence can place the blame for this loss squarely on David Montgomery, who scored no points. That made Montgomery the worst starter this week. His momentum from last week’s 25.5 point performance apparently didn’t carry over.

Happy Valley Violence will face off against Frelinghuysen Froglickers next week. That team is not coming in very hot, after finishing this week with only 37 points. Meanwhile, Keystone Longfellows will be playing Boxboro Blowfish.

Thorobreds Finally Break Through for Half a Point

The New Chester Thorobreds were on a bye this week, so they could not gain their first FFL point of the year with a win. But with 76.5 points on the week, the horses were smack dab in the middle of the pack, finishing 7th in overall points this week, and gaining one-half of one FFL point on the year. This is the first scoring of the year for New Chester.

[1] Player didn’t have fewest points on team, but did the worst versus their positional average.
