Usually New Chester Thorobreds can pencil in good performances from Josh Allen and Jerry Jeudy, but that sure wasn’t the case in a losing effort this week. That plus a crushing loss for Connecticut Wildcats in this week’s ‘Around the League’ report.
Show’s Over
Justin Jefferson and Frelinghuysen Froglickers deny New Chester Thorobreds a 7th straight win
New Chester Thorobreds came into this week’s match-up on a six-game win streak, but Frelinghuysen Froglickers put an end to that. Frelinghuysen Froglickers left tire tracks on New Chester Thorobreds’ back, winning 103 to 44.5. Blowouts are nothing new to Coach David Zilberfarb, since Frelinghuysen Froglickers has been involved in the most blowout games of anybody in league so far.
Frelinghuysen Froglickers have now finished off three straight opponents after this win, giving them a record of 11 – 3. The loss drops New Chester Thorobreds’ record to 9 – 6.
Throughout Frelinghuysen Froglickers’ winning streak, Justin Jefferson has been coming up with big performances. This week was no different. Jefferson was a one-man wrecking crew, tallying 28 points. He set his high mark for the season with that effort. He was clutch this week, coming down with this 39-yard go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.
New Chester Thorobreds suffered from a few bad performances from some unexpected quarters this week. Josh Allen scored 5 points, and Jerry Jeudy was close behind with 1. Allen’s performance ended a three game streak of beating the experts’ projections. His performances have closely tracked the fortunes of New Chester Thorobreds this season, as they have gone 1 – 5 when he fails to meet his expectations, and 6 – 1 when he meets them.
Frelinghuysen Froglickers will play Boxboro Blowfish next week in a matchup featuring the two top players in the league (Ja’Marr Chase for Frelinghuysen Froglickers and Saquon Barkley for Boxboro Blowfish). The game will be a rematch from week eleven, and Coach Zilberfarb will no doubt be worried that Amon-Ra St. Brown will drop another 30.5 points for Boxboro Blowfish like he did the last time those teams faced off.
As for New Chester Thorobreds, they will take on Connecticut Wildcats in a battle of two 9 – 6 teams. These two teams squared off in week four, when New Chester Thorobreds ended up losing by the devastating total of 1 point.
Nothing to It
Chuba Hubbard leaves Connecticut Wildcats in the rear view mirror
Boxboro Blowfish came into this match-up riding high on a six game winning streak. Make it seven. They stomped all over Connecticut Wildcats 119 to 80. Boxboro Blowfish got some retribution on Connecticut Wildcats for their game in week eight, when Connecticut Wildcats pounded Boxboro Blowfish 90.5 to 65.
The win brings Boxboro Blowfish to 11 – 3, and sends them to the top of our internal power rankings. The loss drops Connecticut Wildcats’ record to 9 – 6.
Chuba Hubbard did about as good for Boxboro Blowfish this week as he did bad last week. Hubbard and Saquon Barkley were the standouts for Coaches cathy weaver and Doug Weaver; the dynamic duo together accounted for 52 points. Hubbard contributed a 27 point performance, which was good for 3rd place among all players this week.(1) He got all the glory this week, dancing into the end zone to score the game-winner in overtime.
Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts was clearly the weakest link for Coach Ron Yeany and the gang as he totaled 2 points.(2) Hurts fell farther short of his expected points than any other player this week. He completed just one pass before he was ruled out with a concussion on Sunday.
Something has to give next week when Boxboro Blowfish and Frelinghuysen Froglickers clash, as they come into the game on seven and three game winning streaks, respectively. The game will be a rematch from week eleven, but Boxboro Blowfish will have Chuba Hubbard available, who had his bye week during the first matchup.
As for Connecticut Wildcats, they will match up with New Chester Thorobreds next week. That team will limp into the contest having posted only 44.5 points this week. The contest will be a rematch from week four, when Connecticut Wildcats won by only 1 point.
