Week 8 Recap

by CBS Fantasy Football AI Journalist

Connecticut Wildcats easily bested Boxboro Blowfish this week, while Miami Muffdivers emerged victorious in a much tighter contest against Mercer Mustangs. That plus a very lucky win for Philadelphia Griffins in this week’s report.

Three-peat

Darnell Mooney and Frelinghuysen Froglickers stay hot against Orange Co. Beach Dudes

Frelinghuysen Froglickers had the best wide receivers coming into this game, and they came through for Coach David Zilberfarb once again. Frelinghuysen Froglickers used sticky hands to power themselves to a 90 to 72.5 victory over Orange Co. Beach Dudes. Darnell Mooney scored 13 points, Ja’Marr Chase got 12.5, and Justin Jefferson dropped 12. Jefferson has now outperformed the league average wide receiver for seven straight games.

Josh Jacobs did his best to give Orange Co. Beach Dudes a chance to win. Jacobs scored 23.5 points, which topped all running backs this week. Unfortunately for Orange Co. Beach Dudes, he was the only player on the whole team that had a legit good performance.

Orange Co. Beach Dudes suffered through poor performances from Keenan Allen, Jason Myers, and Jaylen Waddle, who collectively managed only 8 points. This is the first time this year that Allen has been the worst starter on his team.

Frelinghuysen Froglickers have now won three games in a row, which gives them a 6 – 1 record. The loss drops Orange Co. Beach Dudes’ record to 2 – 4 – 1.

Sweet Mercy

Jalen Hurts helps Connecticut Wildcats end their 3 game losing streak

Connecticut Wildcats get to go home happy for the first time in four weeks. They destroyed Boxboro Blowfish, winning 90.5 to 65.

With the win, Connecticut Wildcats moved to 5 – 3, good for the top spot in the Engle division. The loss drops Boxboro Blowfish’s record to 4 – 3.

Connecticut Wildcats relied heavily on Jalen Hurts, who dropped 28 points. Hurts’ performance early on Sunday took him from the 7th best quarterback to the 3rd best quarterback in the league. He accounted for four total touchdowns on Sunday: three on the ground and this 46-yard bomb.

Meanwhile, Boxboro Blowfish had many underperformers, but Devin Singletary stood out, notching only 1 point. Underperforming is the new normal for Singletary, who has gone three straight games without hitting his projected point total.

Next week will feature a mirror image matchup as the 4 – 3 Boxboro Blowfish will take on the 4 – 3 Dallas Armadillos. Meanwhile, Connecticut Wildcats will be playing Orange Co. Beach Dudes.

Brushing ‘Em Off

Cade Otton led the charge in a blowout

Chicago Mud exceeded their expectations for four straight weeks coming into this game, did it again, and were rewarded with a victory. They stomped all over Keystone Longfellows 98.5 to 55. The 98.5 points Chicago Mud scored set the high mark for the league this week.

The loss is the 3rd straight for Keystone Longfellows, dropping their record to 2 – 6. The win brings Chicago Mud to 6 – 1.

When Coach Ronnie Feldman entertained thoughts of winning this game, he probably didn’t include the three players that ended up leading the way. Cade Otton scored 21.5 points, D’Andre Swift came up with 17, and Jonathan Taylor finished with 15.5. Otton’s 21.5 point performance set the new high mark for all tight ends this season. He had to be the most surprising big performer this week, having been projected to score only 4.2 points.

Keystone Longfellows are bound to have a hard time winning when Jordan Love has a bad week, and that’s just what happened. Love was the main culprit in Keystone Longfellows’ loss, scoring only 1 point.(1) That performance was worse than every other player this week.(2) He left Sunday’s game with a groin injury, but not before tossing this pick.

Coach Feldman’s lineup decisions earned his team points last week, and did again this week. He started two players that the experts thought should be riding the pine. One of those picks, Cade Otton, worked out. The other pick, Tua Tagovailoa, did not.

Overall, these moves gave Chicago Mud an extra 8.5 points, which only added to Chicago Mud’s domination. Coach Feldman ought to take a lesson from the fact that taking risks worked out this week. His team has a much better record when he bucks the experts’ advice for at least one player

Fortunate Son

Philadelphia Griffins and Bijan Robinson get a gift win from New Chester Thorobreds

Philadelphia Griffins came out on top in a nailbiter against New Chester Thorobreds, winning 58 to 56. Philadelphia Griffins would have only beaten one other team this week, so Coach Nicholas Fisher got pretty lucky with the schedule. The win brings Philadelphia Griffins’ record to 2 – 6, while dropping New Chester Thorobreds to 3 – 5.

Philadelphia Griffins had two main stars in Bijan Robinson and Tank Dell, who together delivered 22.5 points. Robinson has now overperformed the experts’ predictions in three straight games.

Meanwhile, New Chester Thorobreds had plenty of duds in the loss. Amari Cooper was the worst of a five man group of underperformers, dropping only 0.5 points.1 That’s the fewest points that he’s scored so far this year.

Coaches mike white and Rich Sladic might have had a little too much fun last week, as they didn’t set their team’s lineup. They left Rico Dowdle in the lineup, despite the fact that he was a guaranteed zero points.

That cost their team 12.5 points, which cost their team the game. This marks the 4th straight week where they have cost their team points.

That’s All Folks

Dallas Armadillos’ run ends with a loss to Rhamondre Stevenson and Happy Valley Violence

Happy Valley Violence made sure that they didn’t become the 5th straight team to lose to Dallas Armadillos. Happy Valley Violence took down Dallas Armadillos handily, winning 87.5 to 71.5. The win is more of the same for Happy Valley Violence, who won the last game with Dallas Armadillos by the score of 69.5 to 45.

The win was Happy Valley Violence’s 3rd in their last four games, bringing their record to 4 – 4. The loss drops Dallas Armadillos’ record to 4 – 3.

Happy Valley Violence won with a balanced effort, as four players outperformed their positional averages. Rhamondre Stevenson was just a bit ahead of the others, notching 18.5 points. That’s the most points that he’s scored so far this year. A good performance by Stevenson has been crucial for Happy Valley Violence all year, as they have gone 3 – 1 when he exceeds expectations, and 0 – 3 when he doesn’t.

Meanwhile, Jordan Mason loomed large in the loss for Dallas Armadillos, posting zero points. That was the fewest of any running back this week. He is in the midst of a troubling sequence, having seen his point total fall every week for the last four weeks.

Both teams face trouble in the upcoming schedule. The schedule for Happy Valley Violence brings Frelinghuysen Froglickers around next week. Frelinghuysen Froglickers have been racking up the points recently, posting two straight 85+ point games.

As for Dallas Armadillos, they will square off against Boxboro Blowfish next week. Boxboro Blowfish brings in the best player in the league over the past three weeks: Joe Mixon.

Winning Edge

Ladd McConkey helps Miami Muffdivers hold on for a win

Coach Pat landy looked like he was trying to give away this game with his lineup decisions, but the team just wouldn’t quit. Miami Muffdivers squeaked past Mercer Mustangs, winning 75 to 72.5. The 75 points that Miami Muffdivers dropped were the most they scored so far this year.

The win brings Miami Muffdivers’ record to 3 – 4, while dropping Mercer Mustangs to 4 – 4.

Miami Muffdivers had a two man team in Ladd McConkey and James Cook, who together came up with 61% of Miami Muffdivers’ points. McConkey kicked in a 23 point performance, which was good for 2nd place among all players this week.2 He caught all six of his targets for 111 yards and a pair of scores on Sunday ( 60 of those yards came from this incredible TD).

Meanwhile, Mercer Mustangs had three stooges, with Jalen Nailor, Jayden Reed, and Davante Adams producing 8 points. Nailor has now failed to top the league average wide receiver in four straight games.

This is the first time this year that Coach Landy has had the same lineup in back-to-back games, and he might want to make it the last. He went with Joe Burrow over the higher ranked Bo Nix.

This decision shaved 17 points from Miami Muffdivers’ score, making the game closer than it would have been. This marks the 3rd straight week where Coach Landy has cost his team points.
