Week 5 Recap

by CBS Fantasy Football AI Journalist

Happy Valley Violence won in an exceptionally close game against Boxboro Blowfish, while Mercer Mustangs were all over Orange Co. Beach Dudes, beating them by 57 points. Other interesting news such as Connecticut Wildcats’ first loss of the season, in this week’s recap.

On Edge

Justin Tucker helps Happy Valley Violence barely triumph over Boxboro Blowfish

Coaches Chris Paret, Jeffrey Ozarski, and John Trzeciak really needed someone to lend them a hand and help end their three game losing streak. Coaches cathy weaver and Doug Weaver were only too happy to help. Happy Valley Violence tightroped past Boxboro Blowfish, winning 81 to 80.5. The 0.5 point margin that separated these two teams is the smallest gap of the season so far.

The win brings Happy Valley Violence’s record to 2 – 3, while dropping Boxboro Blowfish to 3 – 2.

Happy Valley Violence won with a balanced effort, as five players outperformed their positional averages. Justin Tucker was just a bit ahead of the others, putting up 14 points.(1)

Meanwhile, Tutu Atwell and Mike Gesicki put a big hurt on Boxboro Blowfish’s chances this week, recording only 6 points between them. Atwell’s 5 points made him the worst starter on his team for the 1st time this season. He also has yet to give Boxboro Blowfish even one week of above average wide receiver play this season.

Although only one wound up with a victory, both coaches made good decisions this week. Coaches Chris Paret, Jeffrey Ozarski, and John Trzeciak’s lineup decisions were critical to this week’s success. They started Allen Lazard instead of Andrei Iosivas, despite the experts’ prediction that Iosivas should have played.

This decision gave Happy Valley Violence a nice 7.5 point bonus, which was the difference in the game. This is the first time this year that Coaches Chris Paret, Jeffrey Ozarski, and John Trzeciak have set a perfect lineup.

Coaches cathy weaver and Doug Weaver can hardly be blamed for this loss, as they set a perfect lineup this week. That wouldn’t have happened if they had just played it safe. They went with Dak Prescott over the higher ranked Jayden Daniels.

This decision netted Coaches cathy weaver and Doug Weaver an extra 3 points, which wasn’t quite enough. Coaches cathy weaver and Doug Weaver have now set the most perfect lineups of anyone in the league.

Chase This!

Ja’Marr Chase’s 33 points sinks Philadelphia Griffins

Frelinghuysen Froglickers had the good fortune of having the league’s best player this week in Ja’Marr Chase.(2) Frelinghuysen Froglickers crushed Philadelphia Griffins, winning 122.5 to 84.5 behind 33 points from Chase. He is on quite a hot streak, performing better than any other starter over the last three weeks. He passed Jerry Rice for the fifth-most receiving yards by a player through 50 career games on Sunday.

Frelinghuysen Froglickers also got a better-than-expected performance from Brock Bowers, who beat his projections by 11.4 points. Bowers’ 16 point performance topped all but one tight end so far this season.

Meanwhile, De’Von Achane was clearly the weakest link for Coach Nicholas Fisher and the gang as he scored 0.5 points. Coach Fisher has to be used to bad scores from Achane, who has been the worst performer on Philadelphia Griffins more times than any other player. Unfortunately, more bad performances might be on tap for Achane, who has seen his point total drop in each of the last three weeks.

Philadelphia Griffins were also hurt by the 5th straight game that Bijan Robinson has failed to exceed his expected points.

The win brings Frelinghuysen Froglickers to 4 – 1, and sends them to the top of our internal power rankings. This loss brings Philadelphia Griffins’ losing streak to five in a row, which leaves them with a 0 – 5 record.

End of the Line

Connecticut Wildcats can’t extend their winning streak past Mike Evans and Chicago Mud

Connecticut Wildcats entered this week’s game with a four game winning streak, but couldn’t keep it going against Chicago Mud. Chicago Mud got past Connecticut Wildcats, winning 75 to 67.5.

Chicago Mud have now finished off four straight opponents after this win, bringing their record to 4 – 0. The loss is the first of the season for Connecticut Wildcats, dropping their record to 4 – 1.

Chicago Mud got a nice group performance in the win, as four players beat their positional averages. Mike Evans was the best of the bunch, racking up 17.5 points. This is the 1st time this year that Evans has paced Chicago Mud. He scored his 100th career TD on Thursday, which he promptly tossed to a fan wearing his jersey.

Meanwhile, Coach Ron Yeany can blame the loss on Breece Hall, Tre Tucker, and Diontae Johnson, who together managed only 4 points. Tucker might be heading back to the waiver wire after getting picked up before this game.

Chicago Mud’s next game will be against New Chester Thorobreds in a rematch from week one. Chicago Mud won the previous matchup in a blowout. Coach Ronnie Feldman will no doubt be worried that Josh Allen will drop another 25 points for New Chester Thorobreds like he did last time.

Meanwhile, Connecticut Wildcats will take on Happy Valley Violence next week. Connecticut Wildcats will have to put their wide receiver depth to the test in that one, as Rashee Rice has his bye week.

Beat Down

Kirk Cousins’ 38 points help Mercer Mustangs crush Orange Co. Beach Dudes

In a week where there were three blowouts, this was the biggest. Mercer Mustangs thoroughly dominated Orange Co. Beach Dudes, winning 109.5 to 52.5. Mercer Mustangs not only got the win, but posted the 3rd highest scoring game of the year.

The win brings Mercer Mustangs’ record to 3 – 2, while dropping Orange Co. Beach Dudes to 1 – 2 – 1.

Kirk Cousins separated himself from the rest of the crew on Mercer Mustangs, delivering 38 points. That performance was good for 2nd place among all players this week.(3) He became the second player in NFL history to throw for 500+ yards and 4+ TDs in a primetime game (and the other one has seven rings).

Meanwhile, Orange Co. Beach Dudes saw four different players underperform, and while none of them particularly stuck out, Deebo Samuel and his 0.5 points was officially the worst. Deebo fell farther short of his expected points than any other player this week.

Orange Co. Beach Dudes were far from perfect, but Coaches dan callahan and Ross Hessler were. Pulling that off took some extra effort. They started Kyler Murray instead of Deshaun Watson, despite the experts’ prediction that Watson should have played.

This great decision boosted Orange Co. Beach Dudes’ final score by 14 points, which might have mattered in other games, but not this one. Still, Coaches dan callahan and Ross Hessler’s lineup moves made them the best performing gameday coach this week.

Putting on a Show

Chuba Hubbard was tops on Dallas Armadillos in the win

Hopefully Coaches mike white and Rich Sladic have some fingernails left. After last week’s close game, they got another dose of touch and go action this week. New Chester Thorobreds suffered a 57.5 to 56.5 loss to Dallas Armadillos.

With the win, Dallas Armadillos moved to 2 – 2, good for the top spot in the Cappelletti division. The loss drops New Chester Thorobreds’ record to 1 – 4.

Chuba Hubbard and Trey Sermon were the prime movers for Dallas Armadillos, dropping 15 and 11 points, respectively. That makes it four straight games of overperforming expectations for Hubbard.

Meanwhile, there’s no pointing fingers in New Chester Thorobreds’ loss as they failed all over the place. Jerry Jeudy was the worst of a five man group of underperformers, notching only 0.5 points. Jeudy has now failed to exceed the average wide receiver’s point total in any week this year.

Coaches mike white and Rich Sladic have to place a big part of the blame for this loss on themself. Perhaps scared off by Tyrone Tracy Jr.’s 0.5 point performance last week, Coaches mike white and Rich Sladic left him on the bench in favor of Jeudy, despite the experts’ prediction that Tracy Jr. should have played. This decision cost New Chester Thorobreds a total of 11 points, which cost them the game.

No Threat

DJ Moore and Keystone Longfellows skate past Big Oregon Bang

Keystone Longfellows didn’t break a sweat against Big Oregon Bang this week, winning 74 to 44. Blowouts are nothing new to Coach Terry Muth, since Keystone Longfellows has been involved in the most blowout games of anybody in league so far. The win brings Keystone Longfellows’ record to 2 – 3, while dropping Big Oregon Bang to an identical 2 – 3.

Keystone Longfellows had a two man team in DJ Moore and Chase McLaughlin, who together came up with 51% of Keystone Longfellows’ points. Moore got his revenge against the team that drafted him, exploding for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Coach Wayne rupert had to be extra disappointed in certain underperformers this week. Otherwise high performing players Marvin Harrison Jr. and DK Metcalf combined to score only 4 points. Harrison Jr.’s performance ended a three game streak of beating the league average.

Next week, Keystone Longfellows will be playing Dallas Armadillos. As for Big Oregon Bang, they will match up with Boxboro Blowfish.
