Dallas Armadillos won their 6th in a row, while Keystone Longfellows took yet another hit to the loss column. Meanwhile, Coaches dan callahan and Ross Hessler were winning by setting a perfect lineup. Read all about it in this week’s report.
Lineup Nirvana
It wasn’t too close for comfort, but it was still pretty close, as Orange Co. Beach Dudes beat Frelinghuysen Froglickers 57.5 to 52.5. With the win, Orange Co. Beach Dudes moved to 6 – 3, good for the top spot in the Engle division. Frelinghuysen Froglickers are now 5 – 3 after suffering their first back-to-back losses of the season.
Taysom Hill and Nico Collins were the key contributors for Orange Co. Beach Dudes, scoring 15 and 9.5 points, respectively. Hill has now overperformed the experts’ predictions in four straight games.
Meanwhile, Frelinghuysen Froglickers really lost this game as a team. They had six underperformers, with Lamar Jackson (5 points) being the worst.1 Coach David Zilberfarb have to be used to bad scores from Jackson, who has been the worst performer on Frelinghuysen Froglickers more times than any other player. Despite winning a 37-3 blowout, he relied on the run game and posted a modest 187 passing yards on Sunday.
On the coaching front, the difference in tactical skill showed this week. Coaches dan callahan and Ross Hessler followed the experts’ advice for each position and ended up with a perfect lineup. This is the first time all year that Coaches dan callahan and Ross Hessler have pulled that off.
Coach Zilberfarb tried to second guess the experts this week when setting their lineup, but it didn’t work out quite as well. They started Justice Hill instead of David Njoku, despite the experts’ prediction that Njoku should have played.
This decision cost Frelinghuysen Froglickers a total of 6 points, which cost them the game. Coach Zilberfarb have been outsmarted by the experts more than any other coach in the league this season, having cost their team 47 points.
On a Tear
Dallas Armadillos had gotten terrible production out their running backs this season (4th worst in the league), but this week it was a whole different story. Dallas Armadillos used a big game from their running backs to take down Connecticut Wildcats 102.5 to 70.5. Rhamondre Stevenson scored 16 points, and Gus Edwards was close behind with 15. Stevenson went the distance on this incredible rushing score, which accounted for 64 of his 87 rushing yards.
CeeDee Lamb helped out as well, exceeding his projected point total by 9.9 points. Lamb’s 20.5 point performance was good for 4th place among all players this week.2
Justin Herbert has been clutch for Connecticut Wildcats this year, but failed to show up this week. Connecticut Wildcats had many underperformers, but Herbert stood out, tallying zero points. No other player scored fewer points than that this week.
Coach Ron Yeany certainly can’t blame the loss on Nathaniel Dell, who scored 23 points. That was the most of any wide receiver this week.
The win brings Dallas Armadillos’ winning streak to six games, and gives them a record of 7 – 1. The loss drops Connecticut Wildcats’ record to 3 – 6.
Relief
Coming into the game, Mercer Mustangs (3 – 5) had scored the second fewest points of any team over the last three weeks. They didn’t dwell on the past this game though, as they put up big numbers. Coach Jim Waugh’s boys got the job done against Philadelphia Griffins (4 – 5), winning 74.5 to 68. The win is part of a larger trend for Mercer Mustangs. In each of the last three weeks they have scored more points than the week before.
The game gave sweet relief to one team, even though both teams needed it. Philadelphia Griffins started this week with a four game losing streak The victory ended Mercer Mustangs’ four game losing streak.
When Coach Waugh entertained thoughts of winning this game, he probably didn’t include the three players that ended up leading the way. Jake Ferguson scored 15.5 points, Najee Harris got 12, and Sam Howell dropped 13. Howell showed off his accuracy on this dime to tie the game at 17.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia Griffins saw six different players underperform, and while none of them particularly stuck out, Jonathan Mingo and his 0.5 points was officially the worst. That makes it seven straight games where Mingo has underperformed the league average wide receiver.
The schedule for Mercer Mustangs brings Frelinghuysen Froglickers around next week. Frelinghuysen Froglickers will have to play without Raheem Mostert, who has a bye week.
Philadelphia Griffins’ next game will be against Orange Co. Beach Dudes in a rematch from week one. Philadelphia Griffins absolutely demolished Orange Co. Beach Dudes, winning by 44.5 points. Coach Nicholas Fisher will no doubt be hoping that Brandon Aiyuk can drop 25 points like he did when he last went against Orange Co. Beach Dudes.
See J. Score
This game was expected to be close. Happy Valley Violence found those expectations insulting. They stomped all over Boxboro Blowfish 84.5 to 48.5. With the win, Happy Valley Violence put an end to Boxboro Blowfish’s three-game win streak.
The win brings Happy Valley Violence’s record to 2 – 7, while dropping Boxboro Blowfish to 4 – 3 – 1.
After coming up with all of 6 points last week, C.J. Stroud came up clutch this week. Stroud made it rain for Happy Valley Violence, delivering 41 points. He topped all quarterbacks this week with that performance. His 470 passing yards smashed the single-game passing-yard record for a rookie, previously held by Andrew Luck’s 433 yard effort in 2012.
Happy Valley Violence also got a better-than-expected performance from Alexander Mattison, who beat his projections by 5.2 points. Mattison’s performance this week ended a three game streak of failing to hit his projections.
Meanwhile, Coach Doug Weaver will have a hard time pinning the blame for this loss on any particular player. Boxboro Blowfish were brought down by five underperformers, the worst of whom was Gabe Davis (zero points).
Leading the Charge
Coach Wayne rupert picked up Chase McLaughlin off the waiver wire this week and he paid immediate dividends. McLaughlin led the way as Big Oregon Bang tightroped past Keystone Longfellows, winning 45.5 to 45. His performance this week ended a three game streak of failing to perform at a league average level.
Despite winning, Big Oregon Bang struggled to score points due to six underperforming players, of whom Keaontay Ingram (zero points) was the worst. That was the fewest of any running back this week.
Meanwhile, there’s no pointing fingers in Keystone Longfellows’ loss as they failed all over the place. Bryce Young was the worst of a six man group of underperformers, dropping only 4 points.1 This is the 2nd time this year that he was the worst starter on his team.
Keystone Longfellows also had to deal with a poor effort from Kenneth Walker III (7.3 points below expected). Unfortunately, more bad performances might be on tap for Walker III, who has seen his point total drop in each of the last three weeks.
Austin Ekeler was the lone bright spot (and a pretty dim one at that) for Keystone Longfellows this week, scoring 16 points. Ekeler broke several tackles to get down to the goal line and then broke a couple more to get across it.
Big Oregon Bang improve to 4 – 5 after winning three out of their last four games. The defeat is the 7th in a row for Keystone Longfellows, which leaves them with a 1 – 7 record.
Taking the Reins
Miami Muffdivers got this win with a little bit in reserve, earning a 55.5 to 45.5 victory over Chicago Mud. The 55.5 points that Miami Muffdivers scored were the fewest they scored this year. The win brings Miami Muffdivers’ record to 7 – 1, while dropping Chicago Mud to 5 – 3.
Miami Muffdivers were led by the two man wrecking crew of Stefon Diggs and Joe Burrow, who combined for 59% of Miami Muffdivers’ points. Burrow racked up 348 yards on Sunday, which probably has something to do with how quickly he can get rid of the ball.
Chicago Mud lost due to the efforts of some repeat offenders this week. Christian Watson scored 0.5 points, Tyler Bass got 4, and Jordan Love dropped 8. It’s yet another disappointing day for Bass, who has now underperformed the experts’ predictions in five straight games. His performances have been a good barometer for Chicago Mud this season, as they have gone 2 – 3 when he fails to meet his expectations, and 3 – 0 when he meets them.
The scoreboard operator might be kept busy when Miami Muffdivers and Dallas Armadillos, the two highest scoring teams in the league, face off next week. Dallas Armadillos have been racking up the points recently also, posting three straight 75+ point games. Meanwhile, Chicago Mud will be playing Boxboro Blowfish next week.
