Favorable Matchup
Mercer Mustangs came into this week’s match-up on a seven-game win streak, but Miami Muffdivers put an end to that. Miami Muffdivers beat Mercer Mustangs Like a drum, winning 96.5 to 48.5. Miami Muffdivers were able to give Mercer Mustangs some payback for their week twelve matchup, when Miami Muffdivers lost in a heartbreaker, 68 to 64.5.
The loss brings the season to an end for Mercer Mustangs, who finishes at 8 – 7. The win brings Miami Muffdivers to 10 – 4.
Miami Muffdivers came in with the 4th best performing running backs. Mercer Mustangs came in with the 2nd worst. The results were unsurprising. Miami Muffdivers got good efforts from two different players In the running back group, with Austin Ekeler scoring 19 points to lead the way. Ekeler came through on Monday night with not one, but two rushing touchdowns.
Mercer Mustangs had all hopes for a good performance from their running backs dashed when Zonovan Knight put up a 0.5 point total. Knight has now been the worst starter on his team two times this season.
The rest of Coach Pat landy’s lineup followed their running backs, scoring 63 more points. That group was led by DeVonta Smith, who scored 24 points. That’s the most points that he’s scored this year.
Bring the Pain
Losing a close game is tough. Losing a close playoff game is brutal. Keystone Longfellows lost a heartbreaker against Dallas Armadillos, 110 to 108.5. The two teams combined for the highest score this season.
Keystone Longfellows ends their 2022 campaign with a 8 – 5 – 1 mark. The win brings Dallas Armadillos to 9 – 5 – 1, and sends them to the top of our internal power rankings.
CeeDee Lamb was the clear leader on Dallas Armadillos this week, putting up 26 points. Lamb topped all but one player this week with that performance. He earned 120 receiving yards and two touchdowns, the first coming from this masterpiece of a fake-out.
Meanwhile, Isiah Pacheco was the lone bad performer for Keystone Longfellows, and he didn’t even do that bad, racking up 4.5 points. It’s yet another disappointing day for Pacheco, who has now underperformed the experts’ predictions in three straight games.
Coach Terry Muth have made more lineup changes than any other coach in the league, and this week all that shuffling paid off (for their coaching stats at least). They started T.J. Hockenson and Gardner Minshew instead of Gabe Davis and Brock Purdy, despite expert advice to do the exact opposite.
These decisions boosted Keystone Longfellows’ final score by 29 points, which wasn’t quite enough. After their decisions this week, Coach Muth’s lineup moves are now a net-plus for the year.
