Week 15 Recap

They Shall Not Pass

Coaches Paul Gilgallon and Sam McClain definitely did not have the best game personally, but their team managed to rise above their mistakes. Dallas Armadillos ended up on top against Chicago Mud, winning 78.5 to 66. The win helped Dallas Armadillos halt Chicago Mud’s five game winning streak.

Chicago Mud drop to 7-6. The win brings Dallas Armadillos to 8-5-1 and they will move on to the semifinals to play Keystone.

Patrick Mahomes has been coming through for Dallas Armadillos all year, and this week was no different. Showtime joined up with A.J. Brown to score 57% of Dallas Armadillos’ points. That’s all in a day’s work for Mahomes, who is the best quarterback in the league. He completed 36 of his 41 passes (88%!) for 336 yards and rounded out the game with 20 straight completions.

Meanwhile, Chicago Mud saw five different players underperform, and while none of them particularly stuck out, Jonathan Taylor and his 0.5 points was officially the worst. Taylor’s performances have closely tracked the fortunes of Chicago Mud this season, as they have gone 3 – 4 when he fails to meet his expectations, and 3 – 0 when he meets them. He left the game early with a high ankle sprain, almost certainly ending the star running back’s season early.

Dallas Armadillos won this game despite, rather than because of, Coaches Paul Gilgallon and Sam McClain’s lineup moves. They left Rhamondre Stevenson, Jaylen Waddle, and Tee Higgins on the bench, starting three different players who were each expected to score less.

Somehow, each of these decisions ended up being the wrong call. They took a 44 point chunk out of Dallas Armadillos’ final score, which ultimately didn’t make a difference in the final outcome. Coaches Paul Gilgallon and Sam McClain have been outsmarted by the experts more than any other coach in the league this season, having cost their team 55.5 points.

7th Heaven

Mercer Mustangs had traditionally struggled against Boxboro Blowfish, losing 9 out of the 11 games that they’ve played, but Coach Jim Waugh put those struggles in the rear view mirror this week. Mercer Mustangs got past Boxboro Blowfish, winning 86.5 to 79.

Mercer Mustangs have now finished off seven straight opponents after this win, which gives them a 8 – 6 record. With the loss, Boxboro Blowfish drop to 8 – 5 – 1.

Kirk Cousins and Jerick McKinnon were the key contributors for Mercer Mustangs, posting 34 and 25 points, respectively. Captain Kirk’s 34 points represent the most he’s had this year. He threw four touchdowns in the second half, good enough for the greatest comeback in NFL history.

Meanwhile, Boxboro Blowfish suffered through poor performances from Isaiah McKenzie, Justin Tucker, and Pat Freiermuth, who collectively scored only 4 points. McKenzie is in the midst of a troubling sequence, having seen his point total fall every week for the last three weeks. Unsurprisingly, he has also been the worst player on Boxboro Blowfish more than anybody else on the team.

Every other coach in this league should take note of next week’s semifinal matchup between Mercer Mustangs and Miami Muffdivers, as it features the top two lineup setters in Coach Waugh and Coach Pat landy. The game will be a rematch from week twelve, when Garrett Wilson went off for 20.5 points.
