Week 14 Recap

by CBS Fantasy Journalist

Mercer Mustangs won their 6th in a row, while New Chester Thorobreds took yet another hit to the loss column. Meanwhile, Coach Nicholas Fisher lost despite doing all he could on the coaching front. Read all about it in this week’s report.

Working It

Coach Terry Muth have put together the best group of running backs, and they showed their mettle again this week. Keystone Longfellows ran their way to a 82.5 to 51 win over Miami Muffdivers. Christian McCaffrey scored 23 points, while Joe Mixon scored 9.

Jerry Jeudy helped out as well, exceeding his projected point total by 20.2 points. Jeudy put his team on the board with this clean 18-yard grab and went on to earn 73 receiving yards and score two more times.

Meanwhile, Miami Muffdivers suffered through poor performances from Tyler Boyd, James Cook, and Stefon Diggs, who collectively scored only 2 points. Bad performances are pretty common these days for Boyd, who has now underperformed the experts’ predictions in six straight games. He barely played on Sunday after he was ruled out with a finger injury on the second offensive snap.

Miami Muffdivers did get a couple of good, but ultimately futile, efforts from Austin Ekeler and DeVonta Smith, who came up with a total of 26.5 points. After Ekeler’s performance this week, he moved up to being the 3rd best running back in the league.

The win brings Keystone Longfellows’ record to 8 – 4 – 1, while dropping Miami Muffdivers to 9 – 4.

You Again?

Things were lining up pretty well for Chicago Mud coming into this one. They were the 2nd highest scoring team during the previous three weeks, while New Chester Thorobreds had scored the second fewest points of any team over the last three weeks. The final result then, was unsurprising.

Chicago Mud earned a nice victory over New Chester Thorobreds, winning 80 to 65.5. The victory makes it five in a row for Chicago Mud, giving them a record of 7 – 6. The loss makes it five in a row for New Chester Thorobreds, putting their record at 6 – 7.

Chicago Mud relied heavily on Miles Sanders, who notched 24.5 points. That was the most that any running back collected this week. He wore Grinch-themed cleats on his way to a season-high 144 yards and two touchdowns (and this awesome 40 yard score).

Meanwhile, New Chester Thorobreds had three stooges, with Kareem Hunt, Leonard Fournette, and Christian Kirk posting 7.5 points. Underperforming is the new normal for Hunt, who has gone seven straight games without hitting his projected point total. He only rushed four times for six yards and caught two of his four targets for another six.

Dialed In

Boxboro Blowfish have been relying on Jalen Hurts all year, and he came through again this week. Hurts led the way as Boxboro Blowfish destroyed Big Oregon Bang, winning 65.5 to 29.5. That makes it five straight games of overperforming expectations for him. He earned three touchdowns on Sunday (two thrown, one on the ground) and his rushing score made him the first QB to rush for 10+ TDs in back-to-back seasons.

Kenny Pickett was clearly the weakest link for Coach Wayne rupert and the gang as he delivered zero points. That makes it seven straight games where Pickett has underperformed the league average quarterback.

Big Oregon Bang also had to deal with a poor effort from Travis Etienne (5.7 points below expected). Etienne was held to a mere 32 rushing yards, and didn’t see a single target in a full game for the first time this season.

On top of the loss, Coach Rupert took some long-term damage to his lineup. D.J. Moore didn’t make a single catch and only earned six rushing yards before suffering an ankle injury late in Sunday’s game.

The win brings Boxboro Blowfish’s record to 8 – 4 – 1, while dropping Big Oregon Bang to 6 – 6 – 1.

Don’t Doubt Me

Mercer Mustangs were expected to get blownout in this game, but apparently that just made them angry. They stomped all over Dallas Armadillos 79.5 to 53. Mercer Mustangs got some measure of revenge on Dallas Armadillos for their matchup back in week one, when Dallas Armadillos crushed Mercer Mustangs 91.5 to 67.

That’s six straight wins for Mercer Mustangs, for those of you counting, and gives them a record of 7 – 6. The loss drops Dallas Armadillos’ record to 7 – 5 – 1.

This was a matchup of the league’s best wide receiver and quarterback, in Davante Adams and Patrick Mahomes. However, one of them decided not to show up. Adams disappointed with a comparatively paltry 5.5 points for Mercer Mustangs. That’s the 2nd worst game that he has produced this year.

Meanwhile Showtime kept pace with a 20 point effort for Coaches Paul Gilgallon and Sam McClain. It’s just another day at the office for Mahomes, who has led Dallas Armadillos more times than any other player.

With Adams failing to come through, it was up to the rest of the boys on Mercer Mustangs. They answered the call, scoring 74 points. Of that crew, Kirk Cousins led the way with 25 points. Cousins completed 31 of 41 passes for an incredible 425 yards and threw two touchdowns with no interceptions (but still fell to the Lions).

Back on Track

Coaches dan callahan and Ross Hessler may have forgotten what it was like to win after losing nine straight. Philadelphia Griffins were friendly enough to remind them. Orange Co. Beach Dudes took down Philadelphia Griffins handily, winning 92.5 to 72.5. Orange Co. Beach Dudes set their new high mark for the season with those 92.5 points.

The win brings Orange Co. Beach Dudes’ record to 3 – 10, while dropping Philadelphia Griffins to 4 – 9.

Coaches dan callahan and Ross Hessler didn’t rely on their All-Stars to pull this one out, instead getting contributions from unexpected quarters. Trevor Lawrence scored 29 points, Ka’imi Fairbairn came up with 15, and Donovan Peoples-Jones finished with 12. Lawrence’s 29 points represent the most he’s had this year. He exploded for 368 passing yards and three touchdowns on Sunday, plus another score on the ground.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia Griffins really lost this game as a team. They had four underperformers, with Corey Davis (0.5 points) being the worst. Davis might be heading back to the waiver wire after getting picked up before this game.

On the coaching front, Coach Nicholas Fisher wound up with a perfect lineup this week, albeit by following the CBSSports projections to the letter. This is the first time all year that Coach Fisher has pulled that off (slow clap).

Piece of Cake

Frelinghuysen Froglickers put on a clinic for Connecticut Wildcats this week, winning 90 to 57. Blowouts are typical for these teams these days. Frelinghuysen Froglickers has been involved in two straight blowout games, while this is the 4th straight blowout game for Connecticut Wildcats.

The win gets Frelinghuysen Froglickers back above .500 at 7 – 6. The loss drops Connecticut Wildcats’ record to 5 – 8.

Justin Jefferson separated himself from the rest of the crew on Frelinghuysen Froglickers, delivering 24.5 points. A good performance by Jefferson has been critical for Frelinghuysen Froglickers this season, as they have gone 5 – 1 when he exceeds his expectations, and 1 – 5 when he doesn’t. He caught 11 of his 15 targets for an astounding 223 yards (and arguably should have scored a touchdown).

Meanwhile, Coach Ron Yeany can blame the loss on Jeff Wilson, Amari Cooper, and Mike Evans, who together managed only 6 points. Wilson’s 1 point made him the worst starter on his team for the 2nd time this season. He rushed four times for 26 yards and didn’t see any targets before being ruled out at halftime with a hip injury.
