Week 13 Recap

by CBS Fantasy Journalist

Coaches Chris Paret, Jeffrey Ozarski, and John Trzeciak went against the experts when setting their lineup this week, and that boldness resulted in a loss at the hands of Miami Muffdivers. That plus a crushing loss for Big Oregon Bang in this week’s ‘Around the League’ report.

Star of the Show

Dallas Armadillos came into the game as the biggest favorite this week and proceeded to make the experts look good. They skated by Philadelphia Griffins pretty easily, winning 81.5 to 61.5.

With the win, Dallas Armadillos have now won three out of their last four games, bringing their record to 7 – 4 – 1. The loss drops Philadelphia Griffins’ record to 4 – 8.

A.J. Brown was the key contributor for Dallas Armadillos, racking up 24 points. That was the 4th most of any player this week. This spectacular catch from him was one of his two scores that game, which also saw him earn 119 receiving yards.

Deshaun Watson got his first start for Philadelphia Griffins this week, but it might be his last. Watson loomed large in the loss for Philadelphia Griffins, scoring -1 points. He fell farther short of his expected points than any other player this week.

The schedule for Dallas Armadillos brings Mercer Mustangs around next week. That will be a rematch from week one, when Dallas Armadillos won easily.

Next week Philadelphia Griffins will take on Orange Co. Beach Dudes in a matchup of the two worst teams in the league. Don’t look for many shrewd coaching decisions, as the game will also feature the worst gameday coaches in the league.

Christian’s McLovin It

With how his recent games have been going, it wouldn’t be surprising if Coach Ron Yeany was caught napping on the sideline. The previous two games were blowouts, and this week’s action was no different. Connecticut Wildcats were on the losing side of a blowout, falling 89 to 45 at the hands of Keystone Longfellows. Connecticut Wildcats secured the worst team performance in the league this week with that 45 point total.

The loss drops Connecticut Wildcats’ record to 5 – 7, while the win brings Keystone Longfellows to 7 – 4 – 1.

Keystone Longfellows won with a balanced effort, as five players outperformed their positional averages. Christian McCaffrey was the first among equals, delivering 20 points. Run CMC’s performance this week ended a three game streak of failing to hit his projections.

Keystone Longfellows also got a better-than-expected performance from Robbie Gould, who beat his projections by 10.3 points. Gould has now overperformed the experts’ predictions in six straight games.

It was, unfortunately, a costly win for Keystone Longfellows. Kenneth Walker III rushed three times for 36 yards before being ruled out in the first half with an ankle injury, leaving him questionable for next week’s game.

Meanwhile, this week’s loss for Connecticut Wildcats was a true group effort. Jeff Wilson was the worst of a seven man group of underperformers, dropping zero points. Ezekiel Elliott was the only player on the team that didn’t underperform, scoring 13.5 points. Elliott pushed through the entire Colts defense to score this touchdown and finished the game with 91 total yards.

All Too Easy

In a week that featured four blowouts, this was the biggest. Chicago Mud made it look easy against Big Oregon Bang, winning 91.5 to 46.

The win gets Chicago Mud back to .500 at 6 – 6.

Chicago Mud were led by the wide receiver tag team of Tyreek Hill and Christian Watson, who together notched 39 points. After the Cheetah’s performance this week, he moved up to being the 3rd best wide receiver in the league. He earned 146 receiving yards on Sunday, and didn’t even have to break stride to bring in this perfect pass for a touchdown.

Lamar Jackson was the main culprit in Big Oregon Bang’s loss, scoring no points. This is the 2nd time this year that he was the worst starter on his team. He was ruled out of Sunday’s game in the second quarter with a knee injury, but the injury doesn’t appear to be season-ending.

Coach Ronnie Feldman cannot be happy with how his team has played this season, but he has to be enjoying the recent turnaround, having won the past 4 games. He’ll hope to keep that momentum going into next week’s matchup with New Chester Thorobreds. Chicago Mud will get to face New Chester Thorobreds while that squad is in the middle of a four game losing streak.

As for Big Oregon Bang, they will match up with Boxboro Blowfish. Boxboro Blowfish will come into the game with some momentum, having posted back-to-back 85+ point games.

Five in a Row!

Mercer Mustangs exceeded their expectations for four straight weeks coming into this game, did it again, and were rewarded with a victory. They crushed New Chester Thorobreds, winning 88.5 to 58. The 88.5 points that Mercer Mustangs dropped were the most they scored this year.

With the win, Mercer Mustangs continues their five-game streak of success, which brings their record to 6 – 6. The loss drops New Chester Thorobreds to the last spot in the Paterno division at 6 – 6.

It’s not that hard to win when you have the league’s top performer for the week, and Davante Adams was that player.(1) Adams was a one-man wrecking crew, producing 30 points. A good performance by Adams has been crucial for Mercer Mustangs all year, as they have gone 4 – 2 when he exceeds expectations, and 1 – 4 when he doesn’t. He earned 177 receiving yards and two touchdowns on Sunday, the second of which was this brilliant snag to give the Raiders the lead.

Meanwhile, there were plenty of chefs cooking up this week’s loss for New Chester Thorobreds. They were brought down by six underperformers, the worst of whom was Van Jefferson (1 point). That made him the worst performer on New Chester Thorobreds for the first time this year.

Mercer Mustangs’ next game will be against Dallas Armadillos in a rematch from week one. Mercer Mustangs ended up getting crushed in the previous matchup by 24.5 points. Coach Jim Waugh will no doubt be worried that Patrick Mahomes will drop another 31 points for Dallas Armadillos like he did last time.

Unfortunately for New Chester Thorobreds, they will play Chicago Mud next week, who is riding a four-game win streak. Helping things somewhat, Chicago Mud will be without Justin Fields, who has a bye.

Dialed In

Coaches Chris Paret, Jeffrey Ozarski, and John Trzeciak picked a bad week to make a bad lineup. They went with Dalton Schultz over the higher ranked Cole Kmet.

This decision shaved 6 points from Happy Valley Violence’s score and cost them the game, as they came up a little short versus Miami Muffdivers (9 – 3), losing 80 to 76.

Joe Burrow has been coming through for Miami Muffdivers all year, and this week was no different. Burrow teamed up with Stefon Diggs and DeVonta Smith to provide 68% of Miami Muffdivers’ points. Miami Muffdivers is still perfect in games where Burrow overperforms, going 7 – 0. Impossible passes like this defined his game on Sunday, which saw him rack up 286 yards and three touchdowns (two thrown, one rushing).

Meanwhile, Coaches Chris Paret, Jeffrey Ozarski, and John Trzeciak can blame the loss on Aaron Rodgers, Dalton Schultz, and Travis Kelce, who together managed only 11 points. Kelce’s 3 points were the fewest he has scored this year.

Nothing to It

The experts predicted this would be a close game. The experts were wrong…big time. Boxboro Blowfish gave Frelinghuysen Froglickers a 92 to 65 drubbing. The win brings Boxboro Blowfish’s record to 7 – 4 – 1, while dropping Frelinghuysen Froglickers to 6 – 6.

Boxboro Blowfish had a two man team in Jalen Hurts and Amon-Ra St. Brown, who together came up with 61% of Boxboro Blowfish’s points. Hurts overperformed his expectations by more than any other player. He threw three touchdowns and rushed for another on Sunday, achieving a season-high 29 completions and 380 passing yards in the process.

Meanwhile, Frelinghuysen Froglickers had plenty of duds in the loss. Derrick Henry was the worst of a five man group of underperformers, putting up only 2 points. King Henry only rushed season-low 11 times Sunday, so it’s hardly surprising he only earned 30 yards.

Boxboro Blowfish will face off against Big Oregon Bang next week. Big Oregon Bang lost this week, and will be looking to avoid their first back-to-back losses.

Meanwhile, Frelinghuysen Froglickers will be playing Connecticut Wildcats next week. Both teams in that game will be looking to move on after getting dominated by the opposition this week.
