Week 6 Recap

by CBS Fantasy Journalist

Frelinghuysen Froglickers took yet another hit to the loss column, while New Chester Thorobreds won their 5th in a row. Meanwhile, Mercer Mustangs finally picked up their first win. Read about how it happened after the jump.

Don’t Test Me

Coaches Paul Gilgallon and Sam McClain looked like they were trying to give away this game with their lineup decisions, but the team just wouldn’t quit. Dallas Armadillos got the job done against Happy Valley Violence, winning 68.5 to 59.

The win gets Dallas Armadillos back above .500 at 3-2. The loss drops Happy Valley Violence’s record to 3-3.

Rhamondre Stevenson made it rain for Dallas Armadillos, totaling 20 points. That topped all running backs this week. He rushed for 76 yards, an effort that made him the only running back to score more than one rushing touchdown on Sunday.

Coaches Chris Paret, Jeffrey Ozarski, and John Trzeciak put Marquez Valdes-Scantling into the Happy Valley Violence lineup for the first time this week, but Valdes-Scantling might want to keep his bench warming pants clean. Valdes-Scantling was the worst of four underperformers, posting zero points. That was the fewest of any wide receiver this week.

These teams will see a difference in the quality of their upcoming opponents. Dallas Armadillos will be going against Miami Muffdivers next week. Dallas Armadillos will have long odds to win if Miami Muffdivers scores another 93 points, like they did this week.

Meanwhile, Happy Valley Violence will be playing Frelinghuysen Froglickers. Good timing, as Frelinghuysen Froglickers will come into the matchup on a four game losing streak. The game will be a rematch from week one, and Coaches Chris Paret, Jeffrey Ozarski, and John Trzeciak will no doubt be worried that Ja’Marr Chase will drop another 20 points for Frelinghuysen Froglickers like he did the last time those teams faced off.

Five Alive!

After scoring their high point total for the season last week, New Chester Thorobreds (5-0) followed it up this week with their season low…but it didn’t matter. They ended up well ahead of Orange Co. Beach Dudes (2-4), winning 78 to 58. New Chester Thorobreds have now exceeded the league average point total in six straight games.

Both squads keep their momentum (or in the case of Orange Co. Beach Dudes, “momentum”) going as a result of this match. The win brings New Chester Thorobreds’ winning streak to five games. The defeat is the 3rd in a row for Orange Co. Beach Dudes.

JuJu Smith-Schuster and Josh Allen were the key contributors for New Chester Thorobreds, producing 16.5 and 21 points, respectively. Allen has now exceeded his points expectations in every game so far this year. He hurdled over a defender to finish Sunday’s game with 329 passing yards, 32 rushing yards, and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Coaches dan callahan and Ross Hessler will have a hard time pinning the blame for this loss on any particular player. Orange Co. Beach Dudes were brought down by five underperformers, the worst of whom was Mike Boone (0.5 points). Boone has yet to give Orange Co. Beach Dudes even one week of above average running back play this season.

Both teams face trouble in the upcoming schedule. Something has to give next week when New Chester Thorobreds and Keystone Longfellows clash, as they come into the game on five and three game winning streaks, respectively. Adding to the difficulty, New Chester Thorobreds will have to play without Josh Allen, who has a bye week.

Losing to a good team better not become a pattern for Orange Co. Beach Dudes, as its next two games are also against winning teams, starting with Boxboro Blowfish next week.

That’s More Like It!

‘We can build on this.’ Mercer Mustangs, who stumbled into week six with the worst record in the league, better hope so. In the only close game this week, they just barely got past Frelinghuysen Froglickers, winning 53.5 to 52. Mercer Mustangs would have only beaten one other team this week, so Coach Jim Waugh got pretty lucky with the schedule.

Mercer Mustangs got off the schneid with this win. They now sit at 1-4. The loss is the 4th straight for Frelinghuysen Froglickers, and puts their record at 1-4.

Mercer Mustangs relied heavily on Mark Andrews, who racked up 16.5 points. That’s all in a day’s work for the 2nd best tight end in the league. He caught seven of his 11 targets for 106 yards and scored this impressive touchdown.

Meanwhile, Coach David Zilberfarb will find no easy scapegoat for this week’s loss. Frelinghuysen Froglickers had six underperformers, with J.K. Dobbins (zero points) being the worst. Dobbins’ zero points made him the worst starter on his team for the 2nd time this season.

Coach Zilberfarb tried to second guess the experts this week when setting their lineup, and the result was very costly. They started Geno Smith instead of Matthew Stafford, despite the experts’ prediction that Stafford should have played.

This decision cost Frelinghuysen Froglickers a total of 3 points, which cost them the game. The bad decision is more of the same for Coach Zilberfarb, whose gameday decisions have been some of the worst in the league this season.

Goin Streaking!

Coming into the game, Boxboro Blowfish had scored the second most points of any team over the last three weeks. They scored a decent amount of points this week, but it wasn’t enough. Coach Doug Weaver’s boys got beat by Keystone Longfellows, 72.5 to 60. The 60 points that Boxboro Blowfish scored were the fewest they scored this year.

The victory makes it three in a row for Keystone Longfellows, giving them a record of 4-1-1. The loss drops Boxboro Blowfish’s record to 3-2-1.

Keystone Longfellows put together a solid Sunday. Kenneth Walker III led the way, scoring 15 points. It took almost every defender the Cardinals had to stop this epic rush, which helped Walker III finish Sunday’s game with 97 rushing yards on 21 attempts.

Meanwhile, Boxboro Blowfish were sputtering along with a less than stellar performance. Isaiah McKenzie really stunk it up, scoring only 1 point.

Boxboro Blowfish were already facing long odds going into Monday night’s game. Any hope they had left evaporated after Courtland Sutton dropped only 1 point.

One More Makes Four

It’s probably been tough for Coach Pat landy to stay awake while following his recent games. After last week’s blowout, he played in another one this week. Miami Muffdivers made it look easy against Connecticut Wildcats, winning 93 to 56. The 93 points that Miami Muffdivers scored were the most they scored this year, just one week after setting their season low.

With the win, Miami Muffdivers continues their four-game streak of success, and gives them a record of 5-1. The loss leaves Connecticut Wildcats now with the worst record in the league at 1-5.

Two of the key players in this fight were real-life teammates, as Miami Muffdivers’ Stefon Diggs squared off against Tyler Bass. While they were on the same team, they sure didn’t deliver the same result. Stefon Diggs did great for Miami Muffdivers, recording 22 points. That performance was good for 2nd place among all players this week.(1)

On the flip side, Tyler Bass was not having a typical Tyler Bass week, delivering only 6 points. That’s the 2nd worst game that Bass has produced this year.

The other players on Miami Muffdivers had Diggs’ back, coming up with 71 points. Of that crew, Joe Burrow led the way with 26 points. Burrow proved he can think on his feet with this messy but successful scramble in the backfield.

Monster

Philadelphia Griffins came into the game as the biggest underdog this week, but they didn’t let that get them down. They strolled past Big Oregon Bang, winning 65.5 to 50.5. The result gets both squads back to a .500 record at 3-3.

Coach Nicholas Fisher picked up Deon Jackson off the waiver wire this week and he paid immediate dividends. Jackson joined up with fellow Colt Michael Pittman to score 51% of Philadelphia Griffins’ points.

This week’s loss for Big Oregon Bang was a true group effort. Mike Williams was the worst of a six man group of underperformers, dropping only 1 point.

Coach Fisher did his part to secure the victory. He started two players that the experts thought should be riding the pine. One of those picks, Michael Pittman, worked out. The other pick, Taysom Hill, did not.

Overall, these moves gave Philadelphia Griffins an extra 11.5 points . This is the first time this year that Coach Fisher’s decisions have earned his team points.
