Off and Running

We’re off and running on the 2008 season, and big running games powered the two top-scoring teams on the weekend. Last year’s Fantasy Bowl participants — Philadelphia and Miami — have notched the high scores for week 1, primarily on the legs of Willie Parker, Michael Turner, and Brian Westbook.

PHI Griffins 73, MIM Mud 27 — Michael Turner’s coming out party in Atlanta was big bonus time for the defending Fantasy Bowl champs. Turner has the week’s high score at 32 points. Terrell Owens contributed 11 points for the Griffins.

MIA Muffdivers 71, KEY Longfellows 39 — Steelers RB Willie Parker contributed 29 points while cross-state Eagles star Brian Westbrook racked up 17 points for Miami. All but one of Keystone’s starters scored, but none of them could get to double digits.

HVV Violence 63, DAL Armadillos 29 — Happy Valley will comes away with the easy win, despite QB Carson Palmer’s -1 point. Newly-acquired RB Marion Barber led the Violence with 17 points, while Steelers WR Hines Ward added 14. RB Frank Gore’s 13 points was one of the few highlights for Dallas.

FFL Froglickers 51, NCT Thorobreds 33 — QB Donovan McNabb (23) and RB Reggie Bush (16) provided all but 12 of the Froglickers points. All but one of the Thorobred starters scored, but none managed to break into double-digit points.

RIB Raptors 48, SYR Blizzard 26 — RB Thomas Jones (14) and WR Jerricho Cotchery (11) led the scoring for the Raptors. The Blizzard debut for No. 1 pick RB Darren McFadden fell far short of fan expectations, as McFadden failed to score with 46 rushing yards and no TDs.

BOB Big Bang 41, OCD Beach Dudes 34 — The big news here is bad news for the defending point champions: Tom Brady is done for the year. That will hit the Dudes hard, as the Brady-Moss magic in 2007 was the key to their points win. Marshawn Lynch led the Big Bang with 11 points, while the Beach Dudes saw few points from anyone not named Peterson (14) or Moss (13).

BOS Wildcats 41, MER Mustangs 26 — Rookie RB Matt Forte’s debut for the Wildcats lead the team with 14 points, and WR Reggie Wayne chipped in 11. The Mustangs got 19 points from QB Drew Brees, 7 points from K Adam Vinatieri, and zero points from the rest of their starters.
