Mud clinches division; Miami grabs the Wild Card

MassIll is into the playoffs as the Engle Division champions with a 47-30 win over the Froglickers. On the final weekend of the season, the Mud found themselves in a “win-and-you’re-in” scenario, and they did just that.

The Wild Card slot goes to the Miami Muffdivers, who beat Oregon 70-53 and finishes with an 8-4-2 record. Miami grabs the Wild Card despite the fact that Keystone finishes with 9 wins. The Longfellows hung on for a 54-52 win over Mercer. Miami’s 8-4-2 record is statistically tied with Keystone’s 9-5 record, and Miami holds the head-to-head tiebreaker via their 52-49 win over the Longfellows in week 13.

By winning the Wild Card, Miami finally clears the hurdle and makes the franchise’s first-ever appearance in the Fantasy Bowl playoffs.

Orange County and Philadelphia continued to roll along, both scoring 80 points in easy wins. Both finish the regular season 11-3. Since the two teams did not play during the regular season, the Beach Dudes will take the top seed based on their lead in overall points.

In the first round of the Fantasy Bowl playoffs, the matchups will be OCD vs. MIA in #1-#4 game, while PHI vs. MIM is the #2-#3 game.

Keystone, Oregon, Happy Valley and New Chester will all make the consolation playoffs. Keystone finishes 9-5 and gets the #1 seed. The other three teams all finished with identical 8-6 records. Head-to-head matchups with the teams involved are listed below with consolation bracket seeding:

  • KEY (9-5): is #1 seed
  • BOB (8-6): lost to HVV, beat KEY and NCT
    — BOB is #2 seed
  • NCT (8-6): split with HVV but has better division record (6-2); lost to BOB, no game vs. KEY
    — NCT is #3 seed
  • HVV (8-6): split with NCT, but has worse division record (4-4); beat KEY and BOB
    — HVV is #4 seed

The consolation bracket matchups for week 15 will be KEY vs. HVV, and BOB vs. NCT. The Wildcats (6-8) and the Froglickers (5-9) are finished for the year, while the bottom 4 teams will move onto the Cellar Dweller bracket where the only way out is to win. The first round in the cellar will see Richburgh (4-8-2) vs. Syracuse (2-12), while the other game pairs Mercer (4-10) vs. Dallas (3-11).

    If Miami had managed one more point in their first game against MIM (it was a tie), then MIA would have won the division and KEY would have knocked MIM from the playoffs.
