WILD WILD CARD: Going into the final week of the regular season, the race for the final playoff spot is still up in the air. The Boston Wildcats are the only team that holds their own destiny — a win over MassILL Mud this week would clinch the wild card berth with a 9-5 record. The Happy Valley Violence can also finish at 9-5, but HVV lost their Week 10 matchup against BOS and would thus lose the tiebreaker. BUT WAIT … it gets better. Keystone, Mercer, and MassILL are all sitting there with 7-6 records. It is possible to have a 5-team tie, because BOS, HVV, KEY, MIM and MER could all finish with 8-6 records.
POINT RACE TIGHTENS: With upset losses by Philadelphia and Oregon, New Chester now shares the league’s best record at 10-3 with the Griffins and Big Bang. The Thorobreds have now won 5 in a row and have closed to within 23 points of the Big Bang for the overall points lead. Last year’s point champs, the Griffins, are 80 points back and last year’s points runnerup, the Wildcats, are 121 back. It could get interesting … some of the top-scoring players might find themselves on teams with home field advantage clinched in a week or two.
THE NEXT-TO-LAST GOOSE EGG FALLS: The next-to-last zero has fallen off the standings page — Syracuse’s 40-35 win over Oregon was the Blizzard’s first division win of the year. The only remaining zero on the standings (other than ties) is the Thorobred’s undefeated division record of 5-0.
