The Graynbald Mud, with rookie owners Ronnie Feldman and Greg MacInnis, pulled off a huge upset and defeated the New York Griffons to capture the 1998 championship in Fantasy Bowl VII.
The Griffons, the runaway point champions, were left high and dry by their running backs. Both Terrell Davis and Marshall Faulk were shut out on the weekend. The Mud enjoyed huge games from Ricky Watters (23 points) and kicker Gary Anderson, who has scored 39 points over the past two weeks.
In four Fantasy Bowl appearances, New York is now 0-4.
Last year’s champions, the Boston Wildcats, captured 3rd place with a 56-40½ win over the Wisconsin Cheeseheads.
The Newport Beach Nightmare walked away with the Consolation bracket, just barely edging the Big Carolina Bang by a score of 41-40½. It also appears the Nightmare will win 2nd-place in total points, holding an 88-point edge over Wisconsin going into the final weekend.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS everyone … the next update will be Dec. 30 or 31, when I will figure out final point standings, final winnings, draft order for 1999, and 1st round draft lottery chances.
