The New York Griffons and Graynbald Mud will square off against each other for the 1998 championship in Fantasy Bowl VII.
The Griffons, rolling along and setting all point records along the way, easily dispatched the Wisconsin Cheeseheads 81½-45 over the weekend. New York owner Nick Fisher is still seeking his first championship after going 0-3 in three previous trips to the Fantasy Bowl.
Graynbald had no problem bumping the defending champions, beating Boston by a 57½-22 count. The Mud, with new owners Ronnie Feldman and Greg MacInnis, have picked up right where former ownership left off. The franchise is 2-0 in previous trips to the Fantasy Bowl, and had made the top-tier playoffs 4 out of 6 years under previous owner Sam McClain.
In the Consolation bracket, Carolina will meet Newport Beach for the Consolation Bowl. The Big Bang stopped New Denver 41½-32, while Newport rolled over Dallas 55-32½. The Armadillos were the only higher-seeded team to lose on the weekend.
